Question about Radio Communications
My Radio Shack Scanner Pro-2046 loses it memory after it is unplug-ed for about 24 hours or less. The memory capacitor is probably bad. Where on the PCB is this memory capacitor and it value. I cannot find any "C" numbers for capacitors stamped on the bottom side of the PCB. With the scanner face, facing towards me, up side down on the very far right middle there is a large button style capacitor approx: 1/2 in Dia. and about 1/2 high and there is a L-13 next to it. Is this the memory Capacitor? on towards the back of the unit there is a taller capacitor about 1 inch in height and about 3/8 inch in Dia. next to a transformer and power jack. Up front in the middle there is a 470 uf capacitor "C" number unknown, next to VR-1 and IC-5. I know that the unit is suppose to retain its memory for approximate 14 days after it is unplugged. Would someone tell the the location of the memory capacitor and the value of it PLEASE. n5flb, ham call sign (a ham of 43 years) email@example.com

if it loses the frequencies immediatly then it sounds like the capacitor that holds the charge for the memory has gone out. If it is sitting for a few days and loses frequencies this is more common. Solution, if you've had it less than a year, take it to your local radioshack, try to find the receipt and have them send it to the repair center for you.
