Gas Condensing Boiler High Efficiency Heating

Ultra high efficiency boilers have become one of the best buys in home heating. These high efficiency boilers have changed dramatically from the first pulse boilers that I had the privilege of installing twenty years ago. Today’s condensing boilers are much more reliable and will not shake and rattle the windows of your house like those old beasts did.

If you are looking to purchase or install a new boiler for your new or existing heating system then you need to look a condensing boiler to heat your home with. In the past twenty years the condensing gas boiler has evolved to be a reliable, very efficient way to heat your home.

Radiant heating systems with the right design feature can easily heat your home at temperatures that use just warm water. At these temperatures the water is pulling the exhaust temperature of the boiler to very low points. This gives you extremely efficient boiler operation.
The boilers of today are made to operate continually at temperatures of 100F or less. At these temperatures it is not uncommon to have the combustion analyzer give me readings of 98-99 % efficiency. To get these types of readings and still heat your home the heating system has to be designed to work at these temperatures.

The right condensing gas boiler coupled with the right heat transfer system to get the heat into your home the right way will give you the most efficient heating system possible with today’s technologies.

Do a bit of research and find a heating contractor that knows exactly how to install a condensing boiler with a radiant heating system properly. For your radiant heating system to perform well at these temperatures, your boiler will need to be installed in exactly the right way. There is not a lot of room for error when designing very high efficiency heating systems. To wring every BTU of heat out of the fuel that is being burnt means that you are also on the ragged edge of supplying just enough heat to the building to over come the heat loss of the building at any given time.

How do I install a boiler flue

If you are installing a new boiler, there will be detailed instructions within the installation booklet shipped with the boiler. Being high efficiency, it sounds like it will be vented with pvc pipe. If so, it could be either a one pipe or a two pipe system. Make sure you follow specifically the instructions concerning the slope of the flu as there will be some moisture condense inside the pipe. Most manufacturers recommend a minimum fall in the horizontal runs BACK to the furnace, some do not.

There should never be a 'sag' in the horizontal runs caused by supports spread too far apart. The two pipe system draws combustion air from outside the home and minimizes any chance of negative pressure in the case of an extremely tight home. That negative pressure is usually never an issue for a normal home, because of leakages around doors and windows and the normal opening and closing of the doors on a routine day.

Again, follow the instructions provided with the boiler and there will be no problem.

What is the normal PSI of the operating system?

As with any hot water or heating appliance, a hot water boiler system requires a constant pressure flow to maintain the optimum temperature. Hot water boiler systems are equipped with a pressure gauge and an automatic pressure reducing valve that will add water to the system if the pressure drops. Despite the pressure reducing valve, owners should be familiar with the standard PSI of their hot water boiler system and should check the pressure reading regularly.

Worcester combi gas boiler 3.5 highflow is constantantly dripping water at the external flue position over flow pipe

water vapour is one the main products of combustion of gas. With a standard efficiency boiler, upon initial heat up when the flue is cold this vapour can condensate on the inner wall of the flue but should stop once the flue heats up, to stop this condense dripping back on to the heat exchanger the flue should be tilted towards the outlet and thus on initial heat up water can drip from the flue. with high efficiency (condensing) boilers, condensation will occur in the flue and secondary heat exchanger during normal operation, dispense of this condensate is accommodated for in the boiler and therefor the flue should be tilted towards the boiler, if not the flue will drip constantly.

I have a Laars Max Boiler 75, 90K with white smoke out chimney

Yes,more then likely its moisture from the high effenicey system of the boiler.

I have a laars boiler at work and some mornings when its cold out it looks like there is a fire, which is really only steam.

As long as your not shutting down on low water failure or loosing pressure and holding temp. This is normal.

Hope this helps.

Livia 90 - Power on no pressure

When you say no pressure do you mean steam pressure or water pressure?
If it is steam pressure the machine is not heating up, then the elements could be damaged, disconnect the machine from power open top 4 screws on the top panel, you will see the boiler and element(middle of the boiler with 1 wire on each of the terminals) disconnect both of the terminals and check for resistance between the terminals, if you get a reading then the element is fine.

The bottom level sensor is not reading the water level and told the machine to not heat(stainless steel probe sits on top of the boiler there are 2 of them one checks the min water level and other checks the max water level, disconnect one of them and using ohms meter check reading from the stainless steel level to the top of the boiler, if there is a reading connect and then check the other one using the same method. If there is no reading on any one of those they might be covered with scale buildup or there is no water in boiler.

The machine cannot read the water reservoir(screw with ground connection on water tank).

There is also the Pressure stat(black box which sits on top front right of the machine with 2 electrical wires going to it), remove wires and check with ohms meter.

Have raypac spa pro electric heater. set thermostat to start turn on timer heater contacts pull in heat starts then contactors fall of line. flow through pump is good,

the high temperature limit may be shutting off the heaters when they registera high temperature conditiojn that is dangerout. Have you gotten to run the heater long ehough to take a temeperature reading betweeen the supply and the return? also do you have strainer in line with the piping to the boiler.and is there a pressure switch for if the unit develops too much pressure. And how can you tell how many gpm your moving thru the boiler? these are the thing that a compenent service technician can check out and correct the prolem. exspecially since this is a boiler and if its improperly repaired it can explode and do lots of damage..that being said I strongly reccommend that you call a service company to service your boiler. THaanks for using Fixya

I have a Honneywell Triple Aquasatat Relay insstalled on by boiler that heats both the baseboard and hot water for my residence. The relay is set so that the low kicks on at 180 degrees and the high kicks...

The temperatures you mention are reacting in a normal manor. The drop in temperature after it first starts comes from the water being brought back to the boiler from the system. The rise in temperature comes from the residual heat in the chamber after the burner shuts off. I would not push the limits on these settings. Water from the boiler is mainly meant as an assist . You did not answer if you have another hat water heater.
