SOURCE: Trouble shooting a Denon Reciever

I just picked up a non working AVR 900, there are a total of 4 fuses inside the unit: 2 on the protect board, 6.3A and 8A, and 2 in the middle near the front. I was told by Denon the following might reset the microprocessor. 1) unplug unit 2) press and hold tuner and video select on front panel 3) plug in while holding buttons Unit display should flash until you let go of buttons. Unit stays on you should be ok/ goes back to red- service They also said: There are 3 types of protection that will commonly occur with our receivers. This is designed to protect the unit from permanent damage. 1) Thermal Protect = When the unit overheats this will occur, usually if there is not enough air space above and around the unit. There cannot be anything directly on top of the unit and there must be at least 4 inches of airspace above the unit. 2) Overload Protect = Most commonly occurs when a strand or more of copper speaker wire is not securely connected to the speaker terminal and is touching the chassis of the receiver. If the volume is turned higher than 85% this may also occur. If you need to turn the volume higher than this point to get the level you want, you need a more powerful amp. 3) DC Protect = When an amplifier fails this will occur. This will protect dc current from damaging the speakers. When this happens the unit will need to be serviced. I had a bad 6.3A fuse ? I replaced it and tried to reset. The microprocessor would not reset. I had the exact same results you had. The chip on the back side of the front IC board was smoking. Before I attempted the reset I asked Denon if it was worth sending in for repair. The answer was "NO" BC

I can help you solve this problem. However you must describe to me which fuse you have replaced. Is it the fuse on the power line or is it a fuse in the speaker line (which I highly doubt). usually this type of amplifier uses two technologies. One is transistors the second is integrated chips. This is in regard to the output stages. I assumed you speaker cables shorted each other while the volume was set at a high level with music playing. Anyway if you are willing I am able to help.

SOURCE: denon avr 2105 died (3 times) dead AVR2105 faulty avr-2105

If your amp looks like it's going to work as normal (ie the front display lights up as it should etc), but then the amp goes into protection mode when the anti-thud circuit times out, then I know what's likely to be wrong.

It's one of the power amplifier channels which has gone faulty.

I just found this out after having this problem with my AVR-1906.

I took the amp apart and de-soldered the suspected channel power transistors (centre channel in my case).....and hey-presto! it fired up as normal (obviously the centre channel would be out of service).

I have ordered the replacement transistors from Farnell (UK) at a miserly cost of around £2-£3 each.

Just waiting for them to arrive.

An alternative is, if you don't use all your channels, take the transistors from a known working but not needed channel and swap them over with the duff ones.

Hope thats of use!

Welcome to Fixya
If this happened recently then try to reset the printer to factory state. Please see procedure below:
1.Connect the Canon PIXMA iX4000 printer to the power cord. ( note : If the automatic power-on function is enabled in the printer, the printer enters the service mode for the first time, but it will never enter the service mode if the printer is turned off by the Power button. This is because the printer remains to be turned on internally if the power is turned off by the Power button. To prevent this, disconnection of the power cord is required before starting the printer in the service mode ) .

2.With the Canon PIXMA iX4000 printer powered off, while pressing the Resume/Cancel button, press and hold the Power button. (note : Don't release the buttons. The Power LED lights in green to indicate that a function is selectable.)

3.While holding the Power button, release Resume/Cancel button. (Don't release the Power button.)

4.While holding the Power button, press Resume/Cancel button 2 times, and then release both the Power and Resume/Cancel buttons.

5.When the Power LED lights in green, press the Resume/Cancel button 4 times to reset waste ink counter in the Canon Pixma iX4000. (note : If the Power LED does not light in green the printer does not enter the service mode, disconnect the power cord and plug it again. Then start from step 1 to start the printer in the service mode again).

6.At the end of the service mode, press the Power button. The paper lifting plate of the sheet feed unit will be raised.
Note :

Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the Alarm and Power LEDs light alternately, Alarm in orange and Power in green, starting with Alarm LED.
Other specified number of time(s) according to the function listed in the table below.

Time(s) LED indication Function Remarks
0 times Green (Power) Power off
1 time Orange (Alarm) Service test print
2 times Green (Power) EEPROM information print
3 times Orange (Alarm) EEPROM initialization
4 times Green (Power) Waste ink counter resetting
5 times Orange (Alarm) Destination settings
6 times Green (Power) Print head deep cleaning (Cleaning of both black and color)

How do I turn tape monitoring on my Denon AVR 3803 on/off? I recently purchased a set of Series V Bose 901's and I am having a difficult time figuring out how to activate the equalizer.

Short answer from personal experience.

There is no way around this part. Get a separate power amp for the 901's if you want to use them in a multichannel way or alongside non-901 speakers.

Connect the Active EQ between the pre-outs and the amp input. Run speaker assignment, levels, etc and have fun.

Oh, but you don't have pre-outs. Bummer. Most AVR's will NOT pass digital sources to analog tape outs. Page 40 of the manual confirms that.

no can do. sorry. You need Pre-Outs to feed an external amp.
