Sound is good when playing DVDs and CDs but makes a high-pitched squeal when switching to surround sound on TV.
I am having problems with a high pitch whining sound with my sony dav-sc8 surround sound system. The problem is only when I watch TV, not CD's.
Can you please provide me with a solution.
I had the same problem, check your wires on the back of the tv and make sure your, red, yellow and white wires are in the correct holes. What kind of tv do you have, as I have an Ilo, and it has like 15 different plugs in the back, you may have to get you book out and make sure you have it in the correct hole on the back of the tv... I hope this helps....

I would guess this model is over two years old. not sure how much you paid, but target sells a decent surround sound blue ray system for just under 300. i got it. it works great, streams netflix movies an even has an internet radio system in it.
if you dont wanna do that, and have made sure that you have tried brand new cds, another option is to play cds on a cheap cd player hooked into your surround sound. it can go in any input on the back with an adaptor you can buy at radio shack, or many of them have an input in the front.
they used to make a cd lens cleaner, not sure if they still exist. it was a tiny brush hooked onto a cd that you put in and it cleaned up the lens.
bottom line is that it makes little to no sense to me that it would play dvds and not cds. i would assume that they both use the same lens to read the device.
This reson you are not hearing any "TV AUDIO" through your RCA surround system would be due to your tv sound output not being connected to an audio input into your surround system. You can hear DVDs,CDs and radio possibly mp3 if connected, as these are built in to the amplifier which the speakers connect to.
If the tv has a Line out (via phono plugs) and NOT via headphone out, connect it to an audio input on the RCA surround system. If the RCA has no other available inputs, well....there ain't a lot you can do but watch CSI with the sound from the TV and then Star Wars (for example) through the TV and Surround system.
Best Of Luck
THANK YOU Guest (4/10/08)!!! That was exactly what I needed! We have had our system for 4.5 years and suddenly, the FM feedback on everything, but DVD and Radio! Your fix helped. Once I set all my presets (at least the current one) to a clear station, the feedback stopped. Hallelujah!! We can enjoy this piece of junk once again! ;) Amanda - San Antonio, TX
Just wire your TV audio out to one of the receivers (DVD player) audio in and select AUX when you want the TV sound to play through the surround sound. You also might want to turn the volume down or off on your TV to get the full surround sound feeling, but that's your call.
