Question about Jenn-Air JGR8775QD Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Explosion potential My Jenn Air gas oven used to work great. Now there is a delay when turning it on, then after several minutes there is a loud "woof" with enough force that it blows the oven door slightly open, and then there is a odd "burnt" smell that follows. It seems like something is preventing a normal startup and the gas is building up too much, then "boom". It runs fine after that, but my wife and I are concerned about turning this puppy on and blowing up our kitchen. What should I be looking for to fix this? (I'm not sure what the model # is. Stainless steel, heavy duty burner top, convection oven)

Absolutely do not use it until the problem is taken care of. You do indeed have an explosion hazzard.

95% chance all it needs is a thourouch cleaning of the ignition assembly.

When burner orifices and lighting tracks get contaminated and partially clogged with rust, dirt, and other sediment it starts to block the gas flow.

The gas starts to build up unburnt untill it eventually encounters the flame or ignitor, and then all the built up gas ignites at once.

It would eventuallty get worse.

Clean or replace the ignition assembly and burners.

Oven is slow to ignite, gas builds up, then

this is potentially serius and if you cannot rectity fault by simple cleaning then you must call in a registered gas engineer.
remove oven trays and any cover plate at base for access. Check the ignion lead from ignitor (either electronic or manual piezzo) and the ceramic electrode that lead goes on to. if there is any short circuit it will not spark. most common fault is dirt etc around the area of pilot or ingitor causing delay with resulting explosion after area becomes saturated with gas, take a brush and clean all you can. I cannot advise to strip down any gas parts as this must be done by registered engineer

When we turn on the oven it takes about 2 minutes before in comes on with a loud bang like gas was on before igniter was up to temp?

Your thermocouple is probably failing, this should be addressed as soon as possible. Make sure the pilot flame is almost contacting the probe tip of the thermocouple. If it is not than it should be cleaned or adjusted. Thank you, Dana

Shannbooks The first thing I would recommend to do is to reset the power. Turn off the breaker for the range for couple minutes and then turn it on. In the most cases it works. Set the time of the day and try to use the oven. If it would not solve the problem let me know. Good luck. Gendos. post back...

Jenn air jgr8850adw won't bake

This usually is an indication of a bad igniter. If this is the standard glow type igniter, it could appear as if it is working, but may not be providing enough current to open the gas valve. This is a safety feature on gas ovens. The gas valve requires a current potential of .32 to .37 amps through the igniter before it will open and allow gas to flow. This prevents gas leakage if the igniter fails to light. The reason your broiler works is probably due to the fact that the broiler gets used less and the igniter is probably in better condition. You can test this theory, if you like, by swapping the igniter for the bake and broil burners to see if the symptoms change. Or, you can simply just replace the bake igniter with a new one. Make sure you secure the power before attempting, though. You shouldn't have to turn off the gas for this. Chances are that's all it is. I hope this helps you.
