Hotpoint FDW60 Flashing lights 3 and 5

My dishwasher tripped out my electrics, on resetting the fusebox the washer was flashing light 3 which I found out was flood sensor, so I drained the water from inside the machine, now when I start the machine the drain pump runs for about a minute then it fills with some cold water through the filter for about a minute, then lights 3 and 5 flash (which acording to the manual is filter blocked) and it all drains again. I have checked the filter, and it's fine. Any other ideas?

Hi, thanks for your response, I don't think water could have got into the controls, but I do think it may have shorted something out in the bottom, but not sure if it would blow the control board or the pump or the heater or what!!!

Same thing happened to me.

The electrics tripped and once going again, 3 ECO was flashing.  This fault was caused by the polystyrene float rising when water fills the botton tray.  Tipping the machine onto its side empties the water unto your floor and clears the fault.  But if there is a leak, the tray will refill, usually in a few minutes, and Flashing ECO appears again.  If you remove the bottom trap - held on with six screws, you will see the float.

The fault was traced to one of the three pipes that run up the left side of the machine to a plastic box.  One had worked loose and was flooding the whole of the electrics area.  This will splash water on the mains suppressor whichs sits directly below it and will trip a RCD in your fuse box.  A jubilee clip fixed the problem.

Now, the machine runs for about 30 seconds, stops, drains and 3 and 5 flash - same fault.  It is possible the connectors are wet and short circuiting.  I suppose if they dry out over a day or so, then this will cure the problem.  I suspect that this fault is triggered by a sensor or switch somewhere - does anybody know?

Is it possible that water has gotten inside the controls that could have caused the flashing lights? Kind of like spilling water on a calculator, everything seems to go haywire.

Hey good luck in fixing this. I would be interested how you finally get it fixed. You are like me in that we want to try everything before we actually spend money or at least properly diagnose it so that a repairman can get right to work and hopefully charge less.

Hotpoint aquarius fdw60 tripping problem

I would agree with you. Everything you say here certainly points to a faulty heating element. The original is fitted with two factory fitted clips so you may need to go to your local garage and get two jubilee clips as they don't usually come with the new element.
