Sharp SX-59E9 Television, wont start.

Sorry about the subject line containing a model but I couldn't find my model in your list. The problem is that when you turn on the Television the power light goes green for about 2 seconds then turns red and does nothing at all. Just so you know we lost the remote for this some time ago.

Re: Sharp SX-59E9 Television, wont start.

The fact that the TV attempts to power by the green light accordingly, and then goes red, indicates that the x-ray protection circuit is shutting it down to prevent any further or more severe damage. You likely have a problem in the B+ (high voltage) line.. Could be anywhere along across one of several circuits but I'd first suspect the HOT (horizontal output transistor), HV regulator and then maybe vertical. There are several tests that need to be preformed and with the right equipment takes about an howr to complete. This is not something you can do yourself - I would assume you don't have the DMM, ESR and 20mHz scope for starters. But a good reputable shop can have this one back on it's feet in an hour and I would guess for under a hundred dollars... If you're not sure where to find a good reputable shop I would suggest going to NESDA's site and researching from there... Good Luck Bill

What does ocp stands for and how to fix it?

OPC stands for Optical Picture Control

Sharp TVs have a sensor to adjust brightness based on how bright is the room (OPC).
You can also set it up to have a visual clue of what that value is (1 light bulb, 2 , 3, etc.)

Off after 2 or 3 seconds

Is this really a standard television or is it an LCD flat panel television? It sounds like this television's main board is going to need to be replaced. Hopefully the power supply won't need to be replaced as well. If the television is out of warranty and the main board needs to be replaced (a repair of $500 or more) you can usually get Sharp to cover the part if you pay the labor (or vice versa). You normally have to go to the service provider first and call in to Sharp with the estimate. You can try an INIT. It would be helpful to know the model number of this television.

An INIT reboots the television and may correct this problem. The method differs from model number to model number so call in to be walked though it. If you have an aquos television you call 877-332-7867 and if you don't have an aquos television call 800-besharp. However if you do in fact have a standard television and not an LCD this does not apply.

White Line Across Television

If it is just a collapsed picture and view as a white horizontal line across your screen. Loose vertical IC connection or is start ailing. Best is to reflux its pin with a new lead or resolder it.

But I don't recommend you do it yourself if you don't have experience doing it.

Nasty voltages may caught you.

Digital Tuner

Most places listed "1 tuner" in specs. Was finally able to find a site where it listed the type of tuner which confirmed that it was not HD compatible. That was all I needed. Sorry I troubled you with this, I shouldn't even have been on your site with this Q. Thanks for responding. Potter1

Not able to connect Sharp Model 25h-M60 to Laptop or DVD player

Use a VCR as a A/B switch. Run Cable signal into VCR. Run coax cable out of VCR into television. Connect DVD to VCR (line in) using RCA cables. To use DVD, set VCR channel to L1 or L2 or AUX, depending on VCR type. Set VCR to channel 3 or 4 to watch television. VCR must be powered up to watch DVD.
