Open the RAM door and remove the two screws underneath. The optical drive will slide right out.

Removing cd rom

The optical (CD) drive on your Acer laptop connects to the side of the device and is accessed via the underside of the computer.
If you are having problems with the optical drive on your laptop you should address it as soon as possible, and one thing you may need to do is remove it.
The good news is that even if you aren't particularly tech savvy, you'll find that the process of removing and replacing your optical drive is relatively easy.
Turn your Acer off and remove any power cables that may be attached to the side of the unit. Turn your Acer upside down.
Slide the battery out of its compartment on the underside of the computer.

Locate the circular optical drive retaining screw on the underside of your laptop.
It is located just above the square WiFi compartment in the middle of the computer.

Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw and set it aside.
Grip the optical drive by its edge on the side of the computer and gently pull to remove it from the computer.
Slide a new optical drive into the computer, making sure the disk opening is facing out of the laptop.
Replace the optical drive screw.

Replace the CD Drive on an Acer Aspire 5000
The CD drive of the Acer Aspire 5000 is designed like most other laptop optical drives.
The CD drive is on the right-hand side of the computer and is attached with screws from the back of the case.
All you need to complete the task is a screwdriver.
To avoid electric shock or damage to the laptop, always ground your tools by touching them against a metal object like a table leg before using them on the computer.

Turn the Acer Aspire 5000 laptop off.
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Remove the power cord from the power supply in the side of the laptop.
Flip the laptop over so you are looking at the bottom of the case.
Slide the battery pack off the top of the case.
You'll see the CD drive on the left-hand side of the laptop when you are looking at the bottom of the case.

Unfasten the screws that are holding the CD drive onto the laptop with a screwdriver. Slide the drive out of the case.
Slide the new CD drive into the case and secure it with the screws.
Place the battery pack in the laptop and turn the computer back over so it is sitting on its base. Plug the power cord into the power supply in the side of the laptop.
Plug the other end of the cord into the electrical outlet.

Tip

PS3 Won't accept discs - Here is the fix!

This tip is for people who have already disassembled their Play Station 3 console and tried to replace the laser in the Blu ray optical drive.

If you replace the laser and then reassemble the Blu ray optical drive and the drive will no longer accept discs (like there is something blocking the disc) follow these steps to resolve.

(NOTE: if your PS3 is not accepting discs because the disc just won't push in, not like there is something solid blocking the drive, or your drive is making "grinding noises" refer to this tip: http://www.fixya.com/support/r4321102-bluray_drive_ps3_makes_grinding_noise )

Remove the metal casing of the Blu ray optical if you have not already done so. This requires removing the three black screws and the two silver screws on the bottom of the Blu ray optical drive.

With the metal casing removed, locate the 5 black screws on the top of the Blu ray optical drive to remove. There are two on either side and one at the back in the middle.

Keep the drive together for now (do not take the top off) and reattach to your Play Sation 3 console.

Turn on your PS3 and wait for it to power up.

Now, take the top of the Blu ray optical drive by “unfolding it” so the top of the drive rests on the PS3 power supply.

With the top off, hit the Eject button on the front of your PS3.

The drive gears should “pop” back into place.

Turn off your PS3 and reassemble the Blu ray drive. You should test your Blu ray drive first before reassembling the whole PS3.

How to replace cmos battery on satellite p105-s6217 laptop

Turn the laptop over and remove the battery pack.

From the bottom of the laptop, unscrew the plastic shells securing the slots for memory,

Bluetooth, hard drive and modem.

You may have to remove more than one screw for each shell. Keep all screws in a small container, away from the work area.

Remove the memory (RAM) modules, the hard drive and any optical drives (CD-ROM or DVD-ROM).

Press the clips on either end of the memory slot to raise the RAM module and detach by pulling it out. Work slowly and carefully, to prevent damage to RAM modules or the memory slot.

Do the same for all modules, if you have more than one.

Slide out the hard drive and optical drive. If the drives seem to be stuck, look for any screws you may have missed.

Turn the laptop over and insert a pointy tool under the thin strip at the top of the keyboard. Use the tool as a lever to pry the securing strip loose, while working with your finger to release latches along the length of the strip.

Remove the keyboard by undoing two screws securing it.

Raise the keyboard and disconnect its cables.

Close the laptop lid and turn it around, so that you are facing ports on the back.

Remove two screws from the metal plate around the ports.

Open the lid and remove a single screw securing the wireless card cover; the screw is under the keyboard, which you already removed.

Disconnect cables from the motherboard.

Access the board through the space created by removing the keyboard. Unplug the speaker cable from the motherboard by carefully pulling at its head.

Unscrew and remove Wi-Fi antennas, and detach the wireless card from the motherboard. Unplug thin, ribbon-like cables from the video card.

Detach the display assembly from the base of the laptop.

Loosen any attachments, and pull the casing toward you to detach the display assembly, including the LCD panel, from the base.

With the motherboard completely exposed, unscrew and remove the video card.

Undo two screws from either side of the hard drive housing and detach the drive.

Dismount the CPU heat sink and detach the fan cable from the motherboard by removing five screws.

You can now access the battery board with the CMOS battery attached to it.

Undo two screws to detach the battery board from the motherboard.

Disconnect two cables running from the battery board, and carefully raise the board to detach it.

Replace the CMOS battery by prying it open with a pointy tool. Insert a new battery and reassemble the laptop.

hope this helps

Hp pavilion dv5-1125nr dvd player does not read cds or dvds it spins i did drop the laptop can i remove and reinstall the drive and try that? how?

Yes you should try that if you really think it is broken. Make sure you pull the DVD drive slowly and carefully. Also make sure you know how to take it out. You don't want to break it.

How do I remove a cd-rom from a hp dv5

1) Work on a table.

2) Remove ALL power to the laptop. AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

3) Turn the laptop over Front facing you. There is one single Philips head screw to remove.
It's on the bottom of the laptop towards the Front, and is just past the Microphone, and Headphone jacks.

4) Screw removed use a paper clip to open the optical drive tray.
The paper clip is straightened out, then a third of it is bent into a handle to hang onto.

Looking at the optical drive with the laptop upside down, there is a small hole to the Left, on the optical drive tray. Insert the paper clip tool you just made into the hole.
This is a manual release to open the optical drive tray.

Hold onto the optical drive tray with your fingers, pull the optical drive out.

If you are going to replace the optical drive, be sure to remove the optical drive bracket from the back of the optical drive. (Two Philips screws) Install the bracket on the new optical drive.

How do I replace a power cord jack in an Acer Aspire 5315. Removed all the screws,I think, but could not get it apart because of something in the middle holding it together. Could not find any more...

Remove the memory, wifi, and hdd access panels. There is sure to be a hidden screw. Also remove the optical drive. Replacement power jacks are available on eBay from multiple sellers for $10-15. You need to completely disassemble the laptop and desolder the bad power jack and solder on a new one. I've found that reinforcing the power jack to the mobo with a hot glue gun prevents this repair from having to be done again in the future.

Remove the optical drive:
1. Position the computer with the left side toward you.
2. Remove the Phillips PM2.5×7.0 screw 1 that secures the optical drive to the computer.
3. If needed, insert a thin tool, such as a paper clip 2, into the release access. (The disc tray is partially ejected
from the optical drive.)
4. Grasp the bezel and slide the optical drive 3 out of the computer.

HP Pavilion dv4000 laptop optical drive failure

Hello, Ironic but I was having the same problem...even though it seems unmovable it does move slowly to the left. Use both hand and take finger pushing on the two long edges towards the left. Once the silver tab on the left side, which is part of the hard drive harness, reaches the edge you should be able to lift it out. Hope this helps.

Removal of eMachine M6410 optical drive

There are two small screws that the monitor cable would screw into, these have to be removed (7mm i believe) to be able to remove the base. The optical drive will typically pull out of the side after a screw has been removed and latch has been opened. I wouldn't go as far as removing the entire base.
