Question about Bosch 4000 - 07 Electric Table Saws

1 Answer

Smoking My Bosch 4000 table saw will start smoking enough to fill the room when using it on pretty much any wood. I does not smell like electrical burning and the smoke is very thick. The smoke comes from the bottom of the unit through the front area. The saw cuts the wood just fine during this smoking. I just need it to do so with out the smoking. It is under a year old and I do not use it very much at all. I am doing some remodeling to my own home and not working professionally with it. Any help or insight is greatly appreciated. Bobby

Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it. The blade turns fine and there was no buildup. When the saw is on and there is no wood being cut, it does not smoke. Only when wood is being cut does it smoke. If the thing you mentioned were the issue, it would smoke all the time right?

Anything else you can think of, please let me know. Again I really appreciate your response.

Couple things I would look for first the condition of the blade do you see any buildup around the teeth like something has burnt on it. Also look into the area around the blade under the table (unplug saw first) to make sure that something hasn't dropped into it rubbing blade causing smoke. Also turn the blade by hand to make sure turning freely. The smoke could possibly be coming from a bearing. If it less than a year old Bosch has a pretty good warranty and you might look into that also. Let me know and I will dig deeper into it.

this saw does not have a breaker overload. Let it cool down and see if works, if not then you have an electrical issue that would need to be diagnosed.

My Bosch table saw motor runs but sparks are coming out the back of the motor. I replaced the bushings and that didn't help. Please advise.

The sparks are most likely coming from the brushes and the commutator. This is an indication of either worn brushes or an armature that is failing and if used further, will burn out. First check the brushes and look at the condition of the commutator. These motors are known to be problematic.

I have a bosch 4000 the motor is smoking and growling (like a bearing is going bad)

If the motor is smoking, yopu should not use it further. If it is a universal motor with carbon brushes, inspect the brushes for wear and replace. If the bearing is going bad, it has to be replaced. There is no easy fix for a bad bearing, except to replace it. You best bet would be to take it to a Bisch approved service center, or call them and get an estimate cost on repair. If too high it may not be worth repairing it over the cost of a new saw. If it is still under warranty, then demand for it to be serviced/repaired as part of that warranty.

If the saw is newer than 1yr Bosch will replace the motor under warranty, provided you have some kind of bill of sale. After the 1 yr warranty you will have to pay for the repair.

If the rear cover appears to have melted also I would replace it. Sometimes they use a bearing cup but if it got that hot I would buy a new one, they are not that pricey.

Saw blade seems to be seized, it is hard to turn manually.

could be a couple problems, first is the inner flange on correctly. and if so remove the blade UNPLUG SAW FIRST and see if you can turn the spindle by hand, it should spin freely, if not then you have a bearing problem or possibly the motor is burnt. did you notice any burning smell last time you used it and if so that is it. Let me know
