SOURCE: gas fire is making glass and ceramics black. It

Hi,
If you are getting black soot them the air/fuel mixture is not correct. Yes, usually it is a sign that you are getting too much gas...
However the problem could easily be that the air shutters are closed partly or dirt has plugged things off enough to mess with the air fuel mixture.
Without knowing exactly what you are talking about it is very difficult to give exact troubleshooting procedures...
I assume you are talking about a gas fireplace of some type...
They are historically very susceptible to dust and dirt which clogs the burner and air ports causing them to smoke..
A very good cleaning yearly is very important for proper operation...
Blow everything out with compressed air as you completely disassemble the unit and put it all back together again...
Generically I would find out the BTU output of the burner and then check the gas pressure or clock the meter to see what you are getting into the burner.
Then after making sure the proper fuel is going in then I would work on the air/fuel mixture and getting a good flame.
To do this may take specialized equipment and even after getting a good flame the combustion should be checked with a combustion analyzer to be sure the you are not producing harmful amounts of CO (Carbon Monoxide).
The best person to do all of this is a professional that has experience with the type of equipment that you have and knows how to setup the equipment to work safely.
After people die it is too late and it does happen...

Hello...i have a black gibson les paul custom. Serial number 00117886. what year is it and would this be considered a black beauty? any idea of value too?

The term 'Black Beauty' has been well overused by now. It was originally the 1957 black Les Paul Custom model, but by now is any black Les Paul Custom. In addition Gibson themselves are cashing in by doing reissues, finished to look older.

So if it is a black Les Paul Custom, then yes, it is a Black Beauty, according to someone somewhere. On top of that, Gibson has reused serial numbers, in different years for different models.

If the serial number is stamped on the headstock with 'Made In USA' the guitar was made at the Kalamazoo or Nashville Plant, in 1976.

Those guitars are worth US$3000-4000 depending on condition.

Otherwise it was made at the Nashville Plant, TN, on January 11th, 2007.

Those newer reissue guitars sell for similar prices.

How can i fix my gas fire place

You can't unless you a government registered gas fitter. Incorrectly installed or serviced appliances gas people and blow up homes. Get someone in to service it.

Flame leaking under lower ring. Common?

no it is a problem with the hob

consider this

as it is a rental property it is the responsibility of the land lord to get a gas fitter in to fix / replace the problem

If you do not ask him to fix it , if there is a problem and the thing explodes, catches fire or gases some one to death, there is every possibility that he will try to blame you for not reporting it

if he refuses to fix it or tries to fix it himself then I would advise that you seek alternative rental accommodation as the problem is for an accredited gas fitter and not a landlord.

Hiya. I have an old baxi boiler wm 38/RS . The pilot light is on but the boiler will not fire up . Can u help me

Rubbish!
Cleaning the jet is a job ONLY for a gas fitter as it involves disturbing both the case seals and the gas pipework. DON'T RISK YOUR SAFETY, besides which if the pilot wasn't powerful enough it would continually go out.
Check (if you're competant to do so) that there's 240vac across the gas valve solenoid connections. If so then the gas valve will need replacing by a GAS SAFE REGISTERED fitter.

Hi I have an old school (30yr approx) vulcan gas heater works brilliantly but the glass has gotten very sooty (blackened) can I dismantle to clean & how??

if the glass is sooty then cleaning it will not solve the problem , its not burning right causing the soot , needs to be serviced by a gas fitter.

We have a Valor Model 466 Black Beauty OXYSAFE Fire, when you turn the sparker on the fire lights and you hold it down for a short time but as soon as you release the ignition the flame cuts out. We have...

It sounds as though you have a bad thermocouple. Replacing the thermocouple which senses the heat from the flame should correct your problem. The thermocouple is a safety device which when working properly sends an electrical signal to the main gas valve that your pilot lite is on and holds the valve in the operational mode.
