Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

Disc drive wont work

My son put a virgin smart card in the playstation 3 tray. I used a pair of tweezers to get it out which seems to have fixed it. But now the problem is when ever I put the disc at the tray opening it makes a chuntering sound and wont allow me to put the disk any further. Can anyone tell me whats wrong with it? Please please help me!!!!!
The nearest repair shop is a 1 hour train ride away and they are charging me £100 just to look at it!

    Well...

After I pulled the card out with tweezers and the chuntering sound continued i just pressed the eject button for about 30 seconds and stopped when the sound changed and it seems fine now!!!

I have seen several suggestions at the playstation*com PS3 forums in the past, such as:

This one with multiple discs jammed it sounds like it may apply to you:

"If anyone is having any problems, this is what worked for me. What is more amazing is that my son somehow managed to force 3 discs into that tiny slot...no idea how he pulled that one off.

So after two hours, a pair of tweezers, a fork, and a butterknife, I decided to try one last thing before giving up. I put the PS3 on its nose, disc tray down, held the eject button while it was on, and pushed a disc in and out of the drive. This caused whatever was in there to finally 'catch' as the drive had been trying to force everything out. After 2-3 minutes of play, a disc finally poked out. I pulled what i thought was one and two discs came out. I set it back down flat, tried to put a cheap DVD in (didn't want to test it with a $60 game) and it seemed something was still in there. I hit eject and out came the third disc. I put the DVD in reluctantly and the PS3 took it and loaded it right up. Unbelievable. After all this abuse, it's apparent these things are built like tanks."

You gotta love children.
Hope that helps.

Comments: Oh, one more thing I remembered to try before you ship it off to Sony or open it up. Touch the eject button on the PLAYSTATION 3 system front for 10 seconds or longer to force the disc to eject. After removing and before reinserting a disc into the PLAYSTATION 3, turn off the system, and then turn on the system again to resume use.

My son has put two discs in ps3 and cant get either out now

I researched this problem since my twin 2 1/2 year old sons decided that my PS3 was hungry and needed a steady diet of 3 discs all at once. On a similar discussion board, someone discussed using butter knives to pinch the discs (one on top and one on bottom) and pull them out. This worked to perfection! Just be sure to pull the power cable from the back of your PS3 prior to sticking any objects (i.e. metal knives) into the front of it.

Playstation 3 - discs not reading

If the warranty is still intact, Sony can fix it. If not, open the ps3, open the blu-ray drive and clean the laser. If that doesnt work, replace the laser.

How to take apart the playstation 3?

This Happened to me as well =(

Here is what you gotta do:

*make sure you are powered down the entire time*

I was able to remove the discs by using a pair of really flat, flexible tweezers. The kind that come in a computer repair toolkit. Regular tweezers had too much of a bow in them to fit in the slot loader.

I also tried to "sandwich" the discs between a pair of butter knives. I pulled two discs out at once, and once they were out there was was only one disc in the machine, I turned it on, and it loaded then ejected just fine. PS3 seems to be in perfect working order.

You could also try to use a paper clip to "Hook" the hole in the center of one of the disks and gently pull them out one at a time.

If you really really and I mean really need to take it apart there is a wonderfully written tutorial HERE

I wish you the best! I hope this helps, Take Care. =)

My son's did the same thing but not because he opened it. I opened it myself and the tray was off track.. it's kinda easy to fix. I haven't had a problem since and this was maybe a year ago.

PS2 configuration problem

This usually happens when the lens eye is dirty or has dust particles on. To clean use a Q-tip and dip the Q-tip in rubbing alcohol or water. You want the cotton to be just damp. Gently clean the lens eye with the cotton. Then use the other side of the Q-tip to dry the access rubbing alcohol or water. You then might want to clean the disk tray. hope this fixes ya problem.

PSP Game Stuck in PS3

1. Unplug PS3
2. Stand up so as you are looking down into the disc opening.
3. Fold out the felt that protects the drive.
4. Look for what resembles a disc. (You should see it)
5. Take to butter knives from your kitchen and with both hands use it like tongs to go into the drive and pinch the disc.
6. Pull out the disc and your DONE.

Worked for me a couple of times.
GOOD LUCK
