Re: Sound Issues

I believe that's a PTK195 chassis. Yo can verify that with the small sticker on the back panel of the unit. If so, there are a number of things to test: C11637 (1uf/16v Smd) off pin 16 of U11600 R13147 surface mount off pin 50 of micro C11611 (10uf/16v) C11604 (3.3uf/50v) C11623 (4.7uf Or 10uf) Audio output IC U11901 (RCA p/n#235446) IC is located at the front left of the board as viewed from the rear of the unit. R14139 (241320) for change or open condition Q11900 SMD near output IC, RCA p/n#215495 and lastly Q11900 the mute transistor. If ANY of this has you scratching your head take it to the shop and take these notes with you... One or more of the above is your answer and none of it is all that expensive... You could save a bit of money by taking the unit into the shop yourself too. Good Luck! Bill

Power went out... after restarting t.v., all working fine but no sound. no matter what we try on remote, can not get sound to return.

If you have had a recent power outage this may be part of the television's fail-safe to protect itself from a surge. Televisions and other devices detect sudden losses of power and have safeties built-in to them to prevent a surge from damaging the equipment. Simply turning off a surge-protector (power strip) or unplugging the device while it is powered on can cause these safeties to engage. When these safeties are engaged, it is indicated by odd behavior of equipment. This is intentional so that the consumer realizes that something is wrong and they will need to reset the equipment before it operates properly again. Not all brands and products behave the same way. I had an RCA Rear Projection Television (the 53" version of this same set) that when this would happen would get only 16 channels and they channels that appeared did not correspond with the actual channel numbers and some would have their SAP audio track on them (example: the cartoon channel should have been on 65 but was on 16, NBC should have been on 3 but it was on 12 and was in Spanish).

The fix to this is simple. Turn off the TV, unplug it and let it sit unplugged for 24 hours. This is what RCA RP's require. If this doesn't solve your problem, the surge damaged something with your audio.

Good Luck! I hope it all works out and thank you for using FixYa!

Picture on TV showed as small lines at the top of the screen. Sound was fine but picture was bad. This happened while playing a video game. Unplugged TV from the outlet for about a half hour. Plugged it...

I would definitely say you have a heating up problem, im guessing either the convergance ic are heating up or HOT or horz output or a capacitor, you could try spraying freeze (radio shack carries it) when the problems starts showing up to isolate the problem.

Blue, green, and red colors all off

I would suggest having a repair person come out to your place to fix this problem. I believe the convergence IC are going or have gone bad. I would estimate a $300 - $400 dollar repair bill.

Will not turn on

This set may have a bad IHVT (flyback ) transformer. When this goes out it shorts out the horizontal output transistor. If the horz out tran is good, then check the hi voltage splitter. (Danger! there is 30,000 volts here!) Pull wire from splitter, insulate with a 6" length piece of rubber hose, and turn on set. If sound comes back the splitter is shorted. Hope this helps, Lee

RCA P46921 alignment issues

I am having the same problem. Just came across this information on another website. Hope it helps. (Both of us).... 5.4 GE / RCA / PROSCAN Read the _ SERVICE MODE WARNING _ before proceeding. To enter service mode, push and hold the [Menu] button on the set. While holding, push and release the [Power] button, then the [Vol +] button. You will now have some information on the screen: "P0 V0" To actually be able to change these values, you must push [Vol +] on the remote so the information reads V76. Then pushing on the Channel +/- will change the "P" value. P1 - 3 are error codes. If there is a problem with the set that can be self-diagnosed, the "V" will report the code. These codes are available in the RCA repair manual. P4 - 7 control the horizontal size, shift, vertical size and shift. You may also find a summary leaflet for the service tech clipped somewhere inside the chassis. The procedures for getting into the service mode, as well as the service items of interest will be there. If you're attempting to adjust color or geometry errors, you'll need the Video Essentials DVD, Laser Disc or some other source of test material.

RCA 46 in rear projection

The first thing that I would check is in the audio menu to see if it is set on the SAP mode (secondary audio programming). If it is and there is no audio being broadcast on that channel, then you would have to turn SAP to off (which is usually what it is set to). Now there have been problems with the audio dropping out on regular CRT style RCA televisions where the audio would drop out, and you had to unplug the set for about 30 seconds to reset the TV, and I would try that next.
