Joe, I had the same problem: an EM-100 leaking water around the base of the frothing wand. Cuisinart tells me that they can replace the gasket if under warranty but don't have a part number and do not sell a replacement part. Can you help me get one?

SOURCE: do you know where can i find the rubber gasket that goes around the brew head of my Cuisinart EM 100 espresso machine ?

It sounds to me that your group seal is bad. Since this machine is a 15-Bar unit, it puts out quite a bit of pressure causing water to leak out around the portafilter when making espresso if your seal is old or damaged. The pressure doesn't build up as much when you are running just water through the machine - hence the reason why the machine works ok without grounds. I sell a LOT of parts and accessories for various manufacturers of espresso machines. This particular seal is extremely difficult to locate fom Cuisinart, but is rather easy to replace. Through extensive testing, I have located a replacement gasket produced by another major manufacturer that fits the Cuisinart EM-100 & EM-200 machines perfectly. I sell them for $10.99 each (or two for $19.99) which includes shipping in the continental US and I accept Paypal. If you would like to contact me via email (cowboy_romeo@yahoo.com), I will be happy to help you out.

I was about to abndon pods on this machine, and then I actually used the Pod filter basket - it worked like a charm. Decalcifying is not a bad idea.

I want an espresso and it's not working...

Most of the time, you just have to reposition the water reservoir - simply pull it up and then put it back in its proper place. If the water tank is even a centimeter off, the suction tube doesn't properly grab it, so it can't take in water.

If you reposition the water tank, and the EM-100 is still not sucking any water out of the tank, there may be a problem with the water reservoir tank itself. Call Cuisinart - I can't remember the Canadian number off-hand (The EM-100C is a Canadian model, so I'm assuming you're in Canada) - and have them send you a new water tank.

Good luck! Let me know if you need any more help with this machine - I am a huge raving fan.

Problem Water Flow in the Cusinart EM-100 Model

I might have answered this one already, but:
Confirm one more time that the knob is lined up with the "o" in the middle - if it is leaning even slightly toward the coffee cup icon or the water/steam icon, water may come forth.

If the knob is perfectly in the middle, then the calibration is probably off (although I can think of one other possibility). Rather than deal with an expensive and warranty-voiding repair, I would just call Cuisinart - that unit has a three-year warranty, and I believe every single one of the EM-100's was introduced less than three years ago. Just write down the serial number that is on the bottom of the espresso maker, and call up Cuisinart - no receipt will be required as the serial number will almost invariably be enough in this case. If you live outside of California, you will have to pay for shipping - probably about $25 all together. But you will be getting a brand-new unit in return.

Half of the time, espresso leaks (or sprays) out of multiple points on the handle/portafilter, instead of coming out of the two designated holes. Almost as if too much pressure builds so it gets forced out...

Try running water only and see if you get the same result. If you do, then soak the filters and the bottom of the metal basket of the portafilter holder in vinegar (distilled white). In my experience, this unit requires constant cleaning. But the espresso is good.

Cuisinart EM 200U expresso machine instructions

Slide water chamber out and put filtered water in it - i would make only 1 cup at a time, so fill only to the minimum fill line. Most tap water will overpower the taste of the espresso. Use grounds, not pods - podded espresso will come out too weak. I would suggest using the double filter cup instead of the single - doubles can be ordered from Cuisinart website.
