Hello,

There are three possible reasons why it's acting like that.

1. Defective AC Adapter or Power cord
2. Defective Motherboard
3. Defective Battery

First off, you need to isolate the part which causing the issue. Please follow the following steps:

1. Remove the battery and use the power cord alone in powering up your computer. If it goes well, then you need to replace the battery. If no go, then try using a different known good outlet.

2. Check the AC Adapter (the box) if there's a light lit. If it's green, then it's should be working fine. If it's amber or nothing at all, then there's a problem with it. You might need to replace that.

3. If the AC ADapter looks good, then try to wiggle the cord so that you can check if the cord is properly connected to the computer. Usually, cords get loose and it causes problems. If it has this kind of problem, then you need to get a technician to check that for you because you might need to buy a new motherboard for that.

Please do the above simple steps, and let me know if anything happens. I hope this can solve the issue.

Does it immediately shut down? Is the vents and fan free of dust? Does it get hot and shut down? With or without battery? Do you get to a screen?

SOURCE: dell d820 wont turn on power light comes on then

this error could be due to defective memory,,if you have an extra memory chip, try to remove the old one and replace it with your extra memory chip, but make sure this memory is 100% working.

Dell d820 power-on password, Service tag 69h84b1, please help me.

I am afraid that such kind off issues could only be solved by motherboard replacement, unless you can contact your laptop's manufacturer support with a proof of ownership of this notebook.

There is also this service which can help you crack the BIOS password:
