Heres an issue with floor model TVs most people arent aware of - or they are, but the deal is too good to be true!

Imagine a new TV opened in Jan to become a floor model...
It gets turned on 6-7 days per week for 12+ hours.

Your TV was put on sale as a floor model because new ones have replaced them.

So the TV now has 4300+ hrs of abuse before you get it home.

Now for your "lemon"...
It is under warranty, so they will have to fix it.
Is there a pattern to the "flashing led?"
Being packed, unpacked, moved, unpacked, installed, etc. there are many chances internal boards or circuits can fail.

Thank your stars this didnt happen 2 days after warranty expired.
Let them fix the unit.
If the same thing happens more than 3 times, you oficially have a lemon.
For now, you just got a good deal - kind-of.

Try pressing the channel button and the start button, if they do not work then the TV is on protection, that means that an internal problem had arisen, maybe on transport and delivery a cable had slipped out, or they cut tv power before turning off at the shop (on modern tv that can cause a fault).

Unplug power cord for one or two hours. If the TV does not reset and stays on standby, then there is an internal fault, in this case, being the set new , ask immediate replacement.

Id have them replace the tv for a good one since its one you like and i think you would prefer to have the tv rather than the money back.

a common problem is a bad flyback....they go out rather easily.try to get them to give you a new set as you dont want one that already has to be repaired before you even get to use it

If the model is a rear projection, the loud noise could have been the power supply or the lamp. Power supply is around $200, bulb starts from $400, add $100 or so for labor.
It is still worth, but won't be far from a price for a new TV set of same or better quality.

I have a Sony Wega 55 inch for about 6 years. I have replaced the bulb twice before. I just got another bulb in the unit. It now works for awhile. It occasionally is shutting down with the 5 blink code. I...

5 blinks, pause, 5 blinks, etc. means "Lamp driver error" and the probable cause listed is "Lamp driver defect".This is the starting point for a qualified service technician.Even so, the actual problem may be the lamp. Did you install a genuine Sony lamp assembly? These sets are bad for the lamp driver and optical block, which Sony has extended a warranty on these sets due to the mass problems that they have had with them. If you haven't contacted them yet please do so and talk to them about a warranty on your set. Sony tells me that while they extended the warranty through 3/2011, so please hurry on this.
The parts you need run between $225.00 and $315.00 depending on what boards you need. IF Sony won't honor the warranty or at least work with you, you may consider a new set, these will only get more costly to keep repairing. I Believe in Sony, its not all their fault, there were a lot of bad electrical supplies sold to the electronics industry a few years ago and they simply don't last.

Sharp aquos LC-20S5U will not power on. red light in front is on when power is turned on red light goes off and nothing happens.

The power board has failed and while possible to replace, is pretty expensive if the unit isn't under warranty. You can't get the part or schematics directly from Sharp unless your factory service. Tritronics might have it, but you'd have to check with them as to availability and price - and you'll pay retail. Secondly, I've seen malfunctioning supplies damage the control board. If you find the inverter supplies are damaged on the panel, go shopping.

Only thing I can offer in terms of repair is check the main filter caps on the secondaries of the inverter supply. If I remember correctly, they're 2200uF @ 25V and 1200uF @ 35V. They'd be "pregnant" or out of tolerance. You have to pull all of them and check with a meter to confirm.

DO NOT USE STANDARD CAPS. You MUST use caps rated for high heat (105 degrees C) and high ESR. They're designed to handle the frequency used for the supply and don't drift as the set plays. MCM offers these caps in their components section.

Good luck,
Mark

Im a HP LCD and Plasma TV technician and I know on HP tv's if theres vertical or horizontal lines, this can indicate a bad video controller board.

What i would do first is perform an alignment to see if that fixes the vertical lines. Your TV should have a feature for it to automatcially perform an alignment of the mirrors.

if the alignment doesnt work, I would say your video controller board is bad.
