Have you done all updates, HotFix's in Windows and Lenovo? Take a look at the lenovo site: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073547. Open the software (Synaptics or Elan?) associated with the touchpad, look for sensitivity, may be a adjustment. It's new, so use the Tech support at : http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/feedback/contactsupport.page?

I have suggested in the past that people with this type of problem download Intellipoint Mouse software, from Microsoft.
It's a free download, and so far, I have had a good rate of this solution working.
Here is the download page from Microsoft.com,

You're hitting the touchpad with your palms as you type. Either lift your hands when you're typing or temporarily disable the touchpad.
SOURCE: When typing cursor keeps jumping
Generally there is a setting (CONTROL PANEL, MOUSE, Touchpad Tab) to either enable a feature like PALMCHECK or to disable the touchpad while typing. If neither option is shown, then try updating your touchpad driver

Hi rbdav1,
Based on your situation. I suggest trying the following steps:
1. Download touchpad driver from here:
http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=600154
2. go to Touchpad section and make sure you select the Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 version of the drivers that matches your Windows operating system.
3. After downloading the touchpad driver driver install it and then restart your computer.
4. Log back in to your computer then go to control panel --> open mouse properties then look for Alps pointing device tab.
5. Under Alps tab uncheck tap off when typing.
Hope it helps.
Thanks for using FixYa
