Question about Samsung HCM4215W 42" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Samsung hcm4215w keeps blowing conv resistors

Hi i have this tv and replaced rz142 and rz143 and the stk 392-040 next to those resistors.....the same 2 resistors keep blowing as soon as i power the tv on and try to do convergence......

i didnt repalce the other stk since i didnt think it has anything to do with the res blowing...prior to this happening i couldnt move blue up or down...everything else worked fine....and when i originally checked the rz142 143 they were both blown so i replced them and they blew again so i repalced them and the stk 392-040 right next to the two res and they blew again but i didnt repalce the other stk......

these resisitors are convergence resistors usually bad stk cause them to blow..but i replaced the stk and they keep blowing the same 2 resistors

rk142 and rk143 on the convergence board........i just want to know what could be causing these to blow all the time instantly

  • dcxguy48080 Jan 11, 2009

could you tell me if rk142 and rk143 are 3.9 ohm 1 watt??

thats what i keep repalcing them with and they blow everytime

  • dcxguy48080 Jan 11, 2009

well ii look slike they should be 3.9 ohm 2 that correct And if so if i use 3.0 ohm 1 watt would that cause them to blow??

  • dcxguy48080 Jan 11, 2009

yes it says 3.9 ohm 2 watt..........i dont have any

can i uses 2.2 ohm 2 watt and try that???

the 3.9 ohm 1 watt i have kept blowing

  • dcxguy48080 Jan 12, 2009

i have replaced the stks.......and there is no pico fuse on the convergence board......where is fd102 at?

  • dcxguy48080 Jan 12, 2009

i coukld not see any pico fuse at all on the convergence board

usually they are green..........but nothing there..

you should use 3.9 2w resistor as recommended in schematics. alternate part can cause of more damage. if you still want to give a try, can do it at own risk.

Resistor value should be as per service manual specifications. I do not have this particular model schematics thats why asked you, do you have its service manual?

Do you have service manual or schematics of same model to check what can be cause of these resistors blown off?

Look Do this
Replace your STK's
I dont trust them any more after all that info, wow

replace them
and yes you need Rz123 and Rz124 to be 3.9Ohm @ 2w don't sub.
Now also order a, 3.5a pico fuse for location Fd102s.

hope this helps you.

you have to finde the right parts no subing.

and yes if you are yousing 1 wat and not 2w thay wiil burn..

fuse is not on schematic its located under fins of heat sink on convergence ic's sum times ther are two of them. fd101s and fd102s

samsung part number is 3601-001065 thay are all on convergance amp pcb.

I changed my two IC chips and three resistances on my Hitachi TV to fix color alignments. Now the problems is that yellow and blue double image are seen at the bottom of my screen with no much effect on...

Ur tv still have dead resistors parts, test all 12 resistors parts around the 2 STK convergence ICS and changes some more dead resistors parts or changes all 12 resistors parts for sure.If tv still have the same problems after tested and replaces more resistors parts or all 12 resistors parts.Than some how when u handling and replacing the 2 STK convergence ICS and resoldering the 2 STK covergence ICS u short it out the 2 STK convergence ICS by resoldering without proper grounding ur self not to allow for static electricity to kill the 2 STK convergence ICS or u using a soldering iron to high of a wattage for doing soldering ICS work.

Apex out of convergence

I have this TV and have fixed this issue. If you cannot adjust Red or Blue convergence, then your STK ICs are defective. The signal board or Digital convergence board is not able to adjust sig lines on the deflection board so pushing buttons does nothing. The STK's are your amplifiers for vertical and horizontal. This will require dissassembly and soldering. You'll need 2 STK392-020 IC's and 125v/5A pico fuse or buss fuse..

The STK's are mounted on 2 massive heatsinks. Can't miss it. Word of advice, LABEL the 3-4 Pin plugs B,G,R from left to right. These are your Vertical and Horizontal coils for each tube. Don't mix them up. I did and the tv survived luckily. Chances are if your STK's poped, then they took out the -25v line. Take out the power supply that is mounted vertically on the right. Look for a row of axiel lead fuses with "SOC 5000" printed on it. They look like white rectangular blocks with leads. Check them all. Particularly RF817. Sits next to RF814. The service manual lists it as a fuse and NOT a Resistor-Fuse like the label suggests. I found more than one typo like this. I replaced mine with a generic 125v/5A fast blow buss fuse. Soldered in a holder for it. Should work the same.

Took me abit to realize it was a fuse on the power supply. This -25 line traces to W057/W058 next to the first STK chip. Explains the symptoms.

The STK's are probably blown again. You need to pay close attention to the resistors around the STK's. If you have ANY bad ones you have most likely reblown those chips. Let me know if this helps.

HCN4727W with Convergence issues

The ICZ designations on that board are two Sanyo STK392-040 amps used for convergence. Rz142 through Rz145 are the yoke return circuit are 3.9 ohm 1/2w resistors. CZ140 and 141 are two electrolytic radial 22mf/50v caps in the feed circuit for those amps.
My question would be - and I've NEVER seen this, in my 30 years in electronics, what caused such a domino failure? The amps are basically LV fed by a +/- 24v line input. If the yoke(s) were to short shouldn't cause enough feedback to destroy the convergence board in the manner you've indicated here. That's a P58A chassis used in several models of the Samsung and Akai designs. Only trouble I've heard of with those boards are cooling and most techs have taken to installing cooling fans directly on the board, driven by the +/- 20v line. That drops the temp several degrees and allows the amps to operate at a much cooler temp. We rebuild those boards here on a daily basis and add the mods for greater reliability. But other than that the P58A is considered a bullet proof chassis.
Hope this helps!

You need change STK392-560(can use STK392-570)
I guess it happend when holding bolts weaken to radiator.(Check other STK on next radiator)
You have to change STK on right radiator.
Disconnect small connectors. You can l leave Hi Voltage two lines(RED). unscrew board.
Pool board out.
Unscrew STK. Set board verticaly. Just pool STK bu pincet and heatup solder. One by one...
Clean halles.
Set new STK with thermopasta on board in to hallsradiator. Screw up.
Wet contacts by liquid fluse. And sosler them.
Clean up by alcohol...Check for short by lense...
Set up board back...5515c27.gif
