If it can't authenticate, you are most likely entering the wrong password.

No, I checked and double checked the password. I know it's correct because I was able to connect my laptop to my computer wi-fi using the same password and it connectged fine.

Ahh I see the problem. Your router is 802.11n. Android 4.0.x ICS has known bugs with N routers. Sony will need to patch it to fix. Make sure your phone is up-to-date there maybe a patch already for it. Also see if you can set a static IP on your phone. I always had problems on a old tablet I had with ICS. Had to wait for a patch to fix it.

I solved the problem by changing my router security from WAP/WAP2 to WEP

The smart phone should work fine on any wireless router. Try going to wireless settings on the phone and if it has your network remember click and hold on your network and select forget network. This should clear out any thing cached about your network. Once that is done try re-connecting to your network and enter any password you may have.

Limited connectivity

Limited connectivity (this phrase occurs first inside the WIN 8 OS) means, that you have connection with your router already, but NOT to the internet. Pls. check, if you have access to internet from other computers or smartphone connected via the same router.
If so, sometimes a driver-update for your D-Link could be useful.
Check also, if other wireless adapters are working with the same frequency, this may disturb. Try to change the channel or change from 2,4 GHz to the 5 GHz Channels, if the router & your D-Link Adapter will support this.
I had the same problem with my WIN 8 - PC and I had to change the (wireless) radio-channel.
