how do i know if it is the power supply?

The "not powering on" is a good indicator. Replace the power supply and if it still doesn't come on then the motherboard is bad. Usually power issues are because the power supply is bad.

If you really wanted to "test" the power supply unplug each connector and use a multi meter to test the voltage. If it isn't putting out the right voltage then you know it's bad.

thanks man! I will try this

Most techs won't even test a power supply because it is too much work. Molex and mini molex connectors have two different voltge pairs, 12v and 5v IDE has one 5v for the motor and one for logic.Sata has two pairs and the ATX motherboard 20 and 24 pin power connector has about 10 different pairs you would need to test. Plus most electronics retailers will allow you to return parts if they don't fix your problem. Power supplies are as cheap as $12 online.

so does it have to be specific to my pc model? or will just about any one work?

    They are pretty universal.

SOURCE: Gateway profile all in one system shuts itself off

I just had a machine in the other day with the exact problem you describe. Don't know if this will help but they had a worm and when the anti-virus kicked in or they opened any type of online program like a broswer or email the computer would shut down.

Also hardware could be the issue. If its not the above issue could you tell us when the last time the heatsink was cleaned. What if anything your doing when it shuts down....

SOURCE: Gateway DX4200-09. Every couple

It will be one of two things, you may have a bad stick of ram, or hard drive issue. Before you power up the system remove one stick of ram, failing that! swap out the other, "remember to put the first one back" If the ram checks out, the next step is check the hard drive for a virus, "scan system" bad sectors on the hardware, "go into my computer, properties, select tools, and the check now button, this will check the volume for errors. If nothing shows up you will need a computer tech to take it further for deeper testing.

How to prevent my GT B5510 to shut down by itself ?

I had the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy after an upgrade. I tried numerous solutions. Nothing worked. Finally, I downloaded LOAD MONITOR [free] from the Play Store, fiddled with the settings a bit regarding the SOD [sleep of death=shutting down by itself], and it solved my problem. Hope it helps.

It seems that you've already tried reset (holding the home and power buttons, right?) the iPad and it does not work.

So you may need to connect your iPad to your computer and do a factory restore using iTunes.

My gateway just won't start up

Try holding the power button for about 6 seconds until it shuts down. Typically, when the light is fading in and out it is in standby mode. If that doesn't work and even after unplugging it - you may have a bad power supply and need a new one (that's the unit that the power cord plugs into and has a fan that always spins).
Hope this helps! Rate my solution!

Car stero doesn't come on

You have it wired wrong. With the fuse out it is like disconnecting the wire, thus removing the fault. Be glad it is shutting down. It is protecting itself from damage and electrical overstress. Trace the wire, my guess is it is a power wire that is grounding. Check all of your wiring again.
