First if one was loose that color (red, green or blue) would be affected.

To look---guessing a older projection set and a model number would help-----the older ones front speaker grill comes off and an inspection plate behind it----necks of the 3 tubes will be pointed down with a board on each-----just look (do not touch) to see none are down or loose.

More commonly on some models they develop a problem where the filament voltage for the tubes is down and the picture gradually gets darker------have the lens(again a older set) been cleaned or not?

Remove rear cover with set unplugged and inspect the 3 large lens--if dusty clean with lens cloth---they are the light source and if dirty picture on these sets will be darker and dull looking

best answer possible with no model number given.

it's not the crt's themselves but more like the anode line coming from the crt. This will need to be taken out of their sockets and cleaned the metal tips on each. Yes it has high voltage in this area. So unplug and discharge whole set and still be careful.

Most projections have a removable speaker cover on the front under the screen. Then there is an access panel that you remove the CRT sockets are the circuit boards attached to the CRTs

Good Day, egipson;
When the CRT's Coolant (fluid) get onto PCB's, one can clean the boards with acetone. BUT YOU MUST MAKE SURE ALL POWER IS REMOVED FROM TV. SAFETY FIRST.
Good Luck, big IRISH. PS after cleaning [place heavy plastic over effected areas.

Single vertical line in centre of screen on hitachi 22ld5750u tv, what is the fix

Hello Leonard Taylor,

Without a full disclosure (what you've already done) we are dealing in SERIOUS SPECULATION... (what the heck)...

With the BASIC (honesty) assumption that you haven't been inside
crossing wires a ESD (sparking) random circuit packs ...

We can pretty well assume your POWER BOARD is
without fault (partial picture = MOSTLY WORKING).

More likely you have a MAIN BOARD (X-Y driver)
that is ready to completely fail... Possibly a MERE PACK RESEAT.

On a bigger set your vertical driver MIGHT resolve to a specific circuit board... on a wee little set... Lets just assume a MAIN BOARD.

PROFESSIONAL Tip:
I'd strongly recommend you never touch any CIRCUIT BOARD you care about without wearing an ANTI-STATIC Wristband.

Hope this helps.

Picture goes dark but there is sound

There are many cause of dark picture symptom of standard television.First thing to do is try to adjust the screen control adjustment located at the flyback at the lower parts. There are two flyback adjustment the focus and screen adjustment. The upper level is focus and the lower is screen control. If check also the CRT socket board section. This CRT board is compose of high voltage terminal coming from the high voltage supply.Check if there's a cold solder in CRT socket terminal and other parts around the CRT socket. The heater supply, the RGB cathode supply, and the screen supply are the supply of picture tube to be lights up.So try to resolder those parts of the TV.Avoid short circuit in the PCB board.Hope it will help you.Thanks..

I'm not an expert in rear projection TV's but i know that the 3 CRT tubes have a verry high brilliance output so i would check the power of the brillance circuitry, could it be a defective OVER HEAT SENSOR that monitors the tubes keeping the voltage down ? becaus i know that they ave a verry sophisticated cooling system (some even uses cooling liquid)

Hope it helps!

Call a good TV Tech and have him check all crt anodes for proper connection. Also remove & reinstall all crt boards, clean spark gaps. This TV is also known for having bad convergence amp IC's.

I bought this on clearance. I hooked it up and

Samsung LN40A550 LCD TV

This is probably the LCD Controller (T-CON) board connections. This is a small board with 2 flat cables connected to it which run to the LCD screen. The connections with the flat ribbons needs to be reseated. The heat makes the connections misaligned. This board is usually covered by a metal shield.
When you reseat the connections, run the set for 15 minutes to see if it works before replacing the back cover. You may have to reseat it again.
Remember, handle electronics boards by the edges, no static electricity, and do not touch the connection contacts.
At worst you would need a new board. (Shopjimmy.com has it for ~$90.00usd)

I would check the red CRT PC Board for a bad connection on the socket. The focus wire plugs into that socket. And a corroded socket, cracked solder or a faulty focus lead connection can cause that symptom.

Could be the blue CRT shorting out. I had the same problem but with red. Eventually it shorted out completely. If it is only 2.5 month old it should still be under warranty and they will fix it.

The most common thing onthese Hitachi's is dusty or dirty CRT's sockets. All it takes is just for one to be dirty and it will effect the other 2 CRT's. The simple easy fix is to remove the speaker grille, then remove the access panel wich will expose the CRT boards. The CRT boards have to have a screw loose to get them to come off. Be careful as they are fragile boards and also make sure the screwdriver is not magetic and that the set is off. Just take a can of compressed air and blow out the sockets and the pins on the CRT's (again be careful as the pins are VERY fragile and will bend easy). Once this is done put the sockets back in place and you should have a normal bright picture again. If not you do have other issues but, I have fixed I would say 96% Hitachis with dark pictures this way.
