When buying or selling a secondhand laptop or desktop computer it is very important that this registration information is changed. If you do not then certain programs you install will use these details to register their program also.

  1. Go to the Start Menu and choose Run from the menu
  2. Type regedit in the box and press OK
  3. Press on the + sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  4. Scroll down to find SOFTWARE Press on the + sign
  5. Scroll down to find Microsoft Press on the + sign
  6. Scroll down to find Windows NT Press on the + sign
  7. Click on Current Version and make it blue
  8. In the right side you will see details

  9. Double click on Registered Owner or Organization. Change the details.

  10. Exit Registry and Reboot computer.

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I have an ipad and i do not know the previous owner its stuck on the activation screen and i cant do anything with it! help!

You can try this: Go to Settings. Under Settings, scroll down to General. Click on that. Under General, scroll down to Reset. Click on that. That will open several lines of choices. The second one is "Erase all content and settings" - however, I have not ever tried this, so it's possible you will need the previous owner's Apple ID and password to complete this step. I would suspect you will, because Apple is very serious about security. So you may need to either contact the owner and get the ID and password, or your other option, as you said, is factory reset, which may be your only way out.

How to restore a stolen iPad to factory settings

Even if you restore the device to factory settings and clear the previous owners settings, images etc from the device the device will still have the same serial number which apple or the previous owner may be able to trace when the device goes to register online (something it will need to do to access the itunes store).

There are also apps which allow owners of stolen devices to take a photo of whomever is holding their device which they can then bring to the police along with the GPS location settings showing where the device is.

Of course, if the previous owner had the device set up to upload images to their cloud account images you have taken of you, your friends and surroundings may already be in their possession......

Woman says photos of iPhone thiefs family showing up on her iCloud

Questions: if the device is indeed stolen,

1 - do you really want to answer to the police why you are in possession of a stolen device?

2- if it was your ipad that had been stolen, wouldn't you appreciate someone helping you get it back?

I WANT TO REFORMAT MY SAMSUNG NP-R60Y TO FACTORY SETTINGS WITHOUT THE PREVIOUS OWNERS INFORMATION BEING THERE

If you perform a Full Installation (Destructive Installation), the computer will be back to day 1, when it came from the factory.

This means the previous owner hadn't been there yet, and all of the previous owner's files do NOT exist.

This is done with either;

1) Restoration Disk:
When you receive the laptop new, and run it for the first time, a pop-up comes up asking if you would like to make a Backup.
THIS,...is the Restoration Disk.

[ Or perhaps Samsung included the Restoration Disk (CD)
Laptop manufacturers are starting to include the disk again. The reason they stopped because owners were too afraid to use it, or just lost the disk. { "Don't need this! Look out cat!" ]

2) New genuine copy of Windows:
Purchase a new genuine copy of Windows, and install it.
ALL previous files (Info) will be gone.

[ Microsoft makes one Master disk. From it all GENUINE copies are made, and sold to the consumer.

IF, you are installing the SAME version of Windows that is on the laptop, you need to go into BIOS Setup, and in Boot Order, set the first boot device to CDROM ]

Got a used 5000us and need to restore to factory settings to erase all files/ content of previous owner. How can this be done?

If you are talking about deleting all the files in the harddrive, you have a couple of options:

1) If you install an OS from scratch, the software will automatically delete all files just before the OS is installed (do NOT choose "repair old installation";; choose "delete active partition")

2) Get a copy (free) of DBAN (Darin's Boot and Nuke; www.dban.org or download it from www.download.com). Burn it to a CD and boot from the CD. This software AUTOMATICALLY wipes off ALL DATA FROM ALL INSTALLED HDs, so be sure you unplug the one(s) you don't want to erase.
