Machine washes but will not drain or spin

I would replace the lid switch, they frequently fail and although still make the sound
will not allow the machine to spin out. Kenmores are noted for this problem
The control panel should hinge back after removing corner screws to reveal the
connector in the middle. The switch is held in with two philips screws and one 5/16
ground screw under the top. The wires run in a plastic channel held in place by metal
clips under the top. You will need some patience to remove the ground screw, lean the
drum towards the front of the machine to give some work room. Make sure machine is unplugged first. Any appliance parts store should have this in stock around 27 dollars or so.

I am wanting to know how to remove the power cord wheel assembly. I ordered an entire new assembly and I am trying to replace it.

HI smarger,

First, remove the hood and tool compartment covers. At each corner of the cover, by the cord retract button, is a screw. Remove these two screws. Pull the button off. It is difficult to remove but just keep pulling until it's out.
Under the button there are 2 more screws. Remove these and you can take off the cover to expose the cord reel.
There are 2 screws on the back of the bracket that hold the reel onto the bracket.
Good luck.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up. Thanks,

Handie Andie

Our Kenmore 23812 washer isn't finishing the cycle. My wife has to go back to rinse cycle then start from there for it to rinse and then spin the water out. Is there anything that I can do?

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question!#!#!#

Turn the power head over and you will see (2) screws. Remove the screws and the top cover will come off and you can get to the belt. Here is the belt you need:

You might have a back main switch. Sometimes they won't lock in to be turned on. A dealer can get you a new part.

Kenmore 23812 80series washer will not agitate or spin. Makes horrendous clicking sound. I can't afford new one right now need help to fix ASAP, please.

The clicking is probably the motor trying to start. If it has a belt, try to remove it to see if the motor can run alone. If the motor cannot run alone, it will have to go to a motor rewinder for repairs. If the motor runs, turn the next part by hand to see if it has a problem.

The lid switch is ususlly the first to go. Luckily, it is easy to replace. To test the washer, connect the lid switch wires together. If the washer spins, you need to replace the switch.
