Clippers jam and won't cut when trying to use attachments

My old Oster Model 182-01, Series B dog clippers work beautifully when using the attached adjustable blade, but will not cut when I try to use the longer plastic blade attachments. The hair catches in the teeth of the fixed blades and the clippers will not cut/go through the hair.

I have a shih tzu and I have the same problem. I use the 1" blade and a short guard. Seems to work well and the hair is not too short.

If not maintained correctly, your hair clippers can become dull very quickly. No matter how sharp the blades, they can become dull if you use it often. This is especially true if you work as a barber. You have to store and maintain your hair clippers the best way. Check out some tips to keep your hair clippers in the best condition:

Clipper won't cut cleanly or easily. Lack of oil and dirty. Sometimes a hair gets caught between the blades. Lubricate and clean your Clippers regularly.

I was shaving my dog using oster ultra cordless clipper, and suddenly the clipper is not cutting hair instead it grabs hair. I opened it and clean out hair under blade, but unfortunately, i did not help.

With most clippers, after an amount of use they need to be cleaned then oiled. Most sets come with some amount of oil for your clippers. Otherwise you can purchase it separately. This should fix the problem.

I have a brand new set of Oster A5 model #78005 clippers. We own two large dogs--we cliipped the first one and it worked beautifully--we were about half finished with the second one and all of a sudden...

I'm sorry if this sounds academic, but regardless of whether or not the problem lies with the clipper or the blade set itself, since it is brand new, return it to the seller.

Difficulty shaving Spanish Water Dog

The biggest issue with clipping animals (except sheep which use completely different clippers) is that once you have sharpened blades, you need to go slow and keep then blades oiled and cooled. The KOOL spray by oster works great and the clippers you are using are a good reliable brand and model. When clipping my cocker/schnauzer cross, I have a 1/2 inch guard on it (have to use a 30 or 40 blade with the guards) and it takes about an hour. I stop every 10 minutes or so to let them cool down, spray and oil them.

if the problem arrears to be with one blade on several clippers it sounds like you need to send the clipper blades for sharpening.

Newbie Clipper needing advice

This is from the Oster book:
Changing Blades
To Remove: IMPORTANT- stop motor; push latch with thumb while lifting blade away from clipper and slide off tongue.
To Replace: turn motor on; insert blade on tongue fully and then snap blade into place.

Note: if the hinge is flush against clipper, lift it up with a screwdriver.

From me - Never take your blades apart to clean them. You can slide them one side to the other to get the hair out. (One little hair, can stop them from cutting.) You need to buy a can of clipper blade cool from oster or andis both are good, and it really helps to lubricate the blade and keep them cool while clipping. If you live near a dog groomer, petsmart or something of the like. Ask them to show you how to remove the blade and I know they will be happy to show you. I tried to submit an image from the book, but I don't know if it will get here or not.

Oster Golden A5 Clippers will not cut

These kinds of clippers are fussy about oiling and dirt. It is essential that the blades be spotless and well oiled FREQUENTLY. Oil after every haircut always. Also, if there is not enough tension on the blades, the hair will slip between the blade and blade guard, getting caught and damaging the blades. Blades should be screwed on tight. Also, it may be time to replace the blade if nothing else helps. These blades do not last very long in my experience especially if not carefully cleaned and oiled.
