Ok I've got a sony vaio laptop on vista, I've got the ethernet cable from my modem going into the wirless router (which is plexus a adsl2 + gateway) now i'm able to connect to the router ok, but if you hover over the status it says local only and im unable to access anything on internet. I've followed the guidelines on the cd that came with it and connected to router, and done everything it says to configure it but same problem. It comes up with the error message "windows tried a repair but the problem still exists, security policy settings on this computer might be blocking the connection, the following policy might need to be adjusted to allow windows to connect, policy provider: windows firewall, filter name:query user I've gone on several sites and have tried ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew tried turning off firewall and all anti-virus protection tried resetting tcp/ip to manufacturers settings i've also gone into windows firewall with advanced security on local computer via admin tools in control panel and domain/private/public profile are all set to windows firewall is on then inbound connections that do not match a rule are blocked, then outbound connections that do not match a rule are allowed any further sugguestions, i am an IT, but i have very little experience with vista so I am baffled....

Connecting to Router open diagnostic page and check your Wan connection.
If you do not find it use from same router the ping or trace command to check your Internet connection.
If you cannot get a result check Wan configuration: (PPOE/A Bridge etc) with your ISP (call or read user manual)
if your router is on net but you cannot browswe vrom vaio check if router access list is set: disable it or add your PC MAC address.

Hi i have switched from win7 64 bit ro win7 32 bit, and now i have problems with video driver on my sony vaio vpccw21fx.

Hello Dron,

Earlier in your Sony Viao laptop the drivers installed is for Windows 7 64bit version. Now you have installed the Windows7 32bit. You have to install all the drivers which are compatible with Windows7 32bit.

Please visit the link provided below :

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VPCCW21FXL&SelectOS=7

Please download the Windows XP drivers from the above link and install the drivers on Windows7 32bit.

When i go to update my ipod, it says, network connection timed out, please make sure network connection is correct and active. how do i do that so i can update my ipod?

Go to System Preferences from the Apple icon menu (top left) under the Internet & Wireless section there is a Network icon (glass ball looking thing) click on that. green dot next to ethernet (or wireless whatever one you use) means you are connected. yellow dot means ready but not connected. red dot means not connected.
If you have a red dot next to the connection that you use, check your router or modem. You might have to call you ISP if the problems keep happening.

I cant plot from AutoCad 2006, using My hp

hmmm.. we only have two computers at my work connected to a router. the designjet has a network card going straight to it. i connect to the router wireless and it reads vista. my boss connects to the design jet thru the router as well with a network card rj cable with xp pro. as for our printer it can be connected via router and does work fine but my boss has it directely connected to his computer and i share it off of his system. then we also have a zerox machine connected via router as well. maybe your router is going out? try a new one or a better one and see if that fixes it. it maybe defected or time for a new one.......

if it was working before then maybe its the router.

I have a Sony VAIO laptop running Vista. When I try to install Adobe Reader 8 or 9 I always get an error saying "Nosso (R) has stopped working" and the installation quits.

Consider an alternative to Adobe. I used to be an adobe fan and thought that there was nothing else.

Since I found Foxit I have been astounded at how quickly it works and how easily it installs.

It certainly seems to work better than adobe

Unable to connect to internet on vista via wireless router

Welcome to FixYa! Vista is not access friendly but you will able to see your connection status by clicking on the network connection icon on the taskbar where you will see "Connected to: " and if you click on that a network map will appear. You will see a red "X" between your wireless access point icon and your Internet icon if the access status is "Local only". Clicking on the Internet icon will retry that connection. Make sure that your ip address is not 169.xxx.xx.x as that is Windows little way of saying it can't connect.
If you choose the Diagnose option it will do a release/renew operation automatically. With Vista you must "elevate" access by right clicking on the Command prompt executable and choose "Run as administator" if you wish to do that ipconfig manually.
Also when you are in the firewall configuration select the wireless connection>settings and make sure all of the permissions boxes are checked (ICMP, etc.)
With the adaptor advanced settings make sure your adaptor has the wireless mode (a, b, g, n) at the correct mode.
Have you tried logging on to the router via the Run bar? That is the most informative way to see your router config. Please repost if you need help with that. I also am a network professional certified since 1978 so I know that Vista defies using many tools we took for granted for so many years and often makes me feel frustrated. Maybe Windows 7 will be better as I only run Vista to help others like yourself, though at least you can understand what I am talking about:) Good luck, Steve Medley

Can't play dvd in my sony vaio laptop

The Vaio / Sony combo DVD drives are renowned to be some of the worst on the market. Sony puts the cheapest cr*p in their laptop and it should be no surprise that after a couple of reads (10+) and writes (10+), your combo drive will be as good as junk... dead weight in your laptop. You'll also hear strange repetitive noises coming from it. I have 3 solutions:
1) Go to the Vaio support site, type your model number to get its page and search DVD upgrade firmware. This should 2 files. One is a .bin and the other is an executable to flash the drive with that .bin file. If the problem still persists then bad news.
2) Buy a USB2 external combo drive. This should be real cheap nowadays.
3) Check impactcomputers for a replacement internal drive. Prices have come down but still quite pricey.

Also if you can let those f*cks at Vaio know what you had to go through, that'd be great.
