After running self cleaner - oven door remains locked, even though the oven has cooled down

I ran the self cleaner on my oven. Stopped it after a little over an hour into the cycle because it was just too smokey for my apartment. After allowing the oven to cool, I moved the latch back to open and the oven door is still locked. It has been days since this happened and the oven door remains stuck. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thank you for the suggestion, I did try this but unfortunately it did not work. Fortunately I found out where the latch is and stuck a knife through the vents to release. It seems the lever has been damage.

I did a self clean for 5 hours yesterday on my upper oven and almost when it was completed it showed an error code of F9, I cleared that and then it came up with an F2 error code 9 times. After it stopped...

chris15640,

I am so sorry, for your delema...
If I was around at the time you purchased your unit i would have told you, "NEVER USE THE SELF-CLEANER," Because it uses a much higher tempuature then the wires can handle..
There maybe a wire or two burnt and the computer sees them at a low resistance and the computer is not letting operate an unsafe oven.
You need to remove oven from the wall... Check ALL wires and also check the thermistat probe at the connection with the electrical. If thermistat has a resistance, OK, If no reading.. replace thermistat. If you feel that all wire are OK put back oven and if it does not let you bake,... replace computer. That is Very costly

My oven door is locked. It is not cleaning. I have tried turning off the breaker. help i have a turkey to put in the oven. Is there a sequence of buttons I can push to unlock it?

Hello,

Here are some solution on how to unlock the door of your oven ans do self cleaning below.

IF you can locate the model number tag (bottom left of door opening) you can look up the manual at www.geappliances.com
The only button on your stove that should make the door lock would be the clean button (self clean model) if that is pressed simply hit the clear/off or cancel key and wait for the door to unlock. IF the self clean option ran for an hour or so, you will have to wait for the oven to cool down before the lock can unlock (safety feature).
hope this helps you out please rate this solution it helps get better results for our customers like you

Here are solution on how to clean up your oven below.

Self Cleaning
  • 1 Remove oven racks and soak them in soapy water.
  • 2 Turn on your automatic oven cleaner; this usually entails locking the door and turning the function switch to "clean."
  • 3 Let the oven do its work;it will heat for several hours, charring off baked-on foods.
  • Fast Cleaning
  • 1 Remove oven racks and place them in soapy water to soak.
  • 2 Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
  • 3 Turn the oven off and spray the inside with oven cleaner.
  • 4 Allow to sit for 10 minutes.
  • 5 Wipe the cleaner and dirt away with a damp sponge, rinsing frequently.
  • 6 Dry with a soft cloth.

    Oven Door Locked

the oven door does lock during self clean, otherwise it will not work. however, the door is supposed to unlock after the oven has cooled. if it is still locked, turn the oven to self clean and wait about a minute and then hit cancel and see if the door unlocks. if not, there may be a probelm with the door lock mechanism. Self-cleaning gas oven

Door lock motor has probably failed.....Self clean on many
ovens can be a self destruct mode. Door latch motors, sensor
probes and even the electronic controls can be destroyed by
this operation. On many freestanding stoves the lock motor is located in the right rear (looking from the front) with a long rod connected to the lock. remove the motor and unhook the rod from the motor cam. Sometimes bending a coat hangar into a hook and sliding from the right side into the lock you can unlock the door.
