Tone Arm jumps ahead 1/4-inch when starting to play record

Good Morning,

Re: CR2406A / Croslely CD Recorder

When starting to play a standard size 33 1/3 record, I use the cue lever to raise the tone arm off its rest, and move the tone arm over to lower it to the point I want the record to start (the beginning of the record). Each time, the tone arm jumps ahead 1/4-inch. The Tone Arm will not stay and play from the beginning of the record. Is there an adjustment to be made to remedy this?

Thank you for your time,
Julia Williams

You need to open the unit up and unplug your interconnect ribbon cables one at a time and check it is connected properly . Faulty ribbon cable can cause this problem .

Check the arm release/elevetion mechanics, at the base of the arm, the arm elevator has probably a mechanical fault.

Often you need to take apart the turntable to fix this, in that case I suggest contacting service.

My turntable a Crosley CR49 is about 14 years old. It plays just fine, but have to manually reset, clicking the tone arm after every record I play, either 45s or 33 1/3. How Can I fix this?

You will need to get to the underside of the turntable. There you should find that the arm when it gets to the centre of the record it will push on a switch. This switch might be out of position or just get stuck by grease or dirt. Correcting it should solve the problem.

The gears usually dry up or get stuck with hair. You need to open the panel and re-grease it.

Find somebody from Manila, Philippines and ask them to get you one at Raon. If they don't have it in stock they will make it for you.

Hitachi Troubleshooting

Check to see if you have a setting to change between 33 or 45. If set to the wrong setting for the size record you are playing the tone arm will pick up incorrectly.

Wurlitzer jukebox 1015 78rpm records needle does not start at the begining sometimes starts 1/2" in. How do I adjust tone arm

If you study the screws around the cradle that the tone arm sits in you will see that it is adjustable. This determines where the tone arm is when the record comes up. If the machine was always wrong like this it may have been set for 45rpm records. You need to adjust the whole tone arm post with the screw that goes up into the base of the post..

My console can only play 45 rpm records

There should be a record size selector switch somewhere. It will move the arm to the positions for 12inch 7inch and 10inch records. It must be set to 7inch or 10 at the moment. For 33 it should be on '12' and for 45 on '7'.

Playing to the end of the record

I LOVED the 40bs, and if you look at the size selector, which is located at an angle to the right side at the front along with the manual or auto setting in the front. There are 4 settings, 78-10, 45-7, 33-12, and 33-7 for the speeds and sizes of the recordings.

Tone arm retracts before recording is complete (CR-245)

actual old units (not sure about modern nostalgics) sometimes had a lever that said 7 or 12 inches for 45's or 33's this would tell the mechanism when to set down the arm. If your unit does not have something like this then it sounds like an internal failure that would require it being opened by a tech or sent in for warranty repair.

Problem playing 45 Records to their entirety.

There is an adjustment on the tone arm that you use to set where the tone arm picks up at the end of the record. This adjustment is normaly at the back (pivot point) of the tone arm and will be on the side probably. By the way, the tone arm is the part that the stylus is mounted to that swings back and forth to reach all the surface of the record. Make your adjustment and then test and continue doing this until you get it just where you want it. It is a process of trial and error. Good luck.
