Rcd tripping My bdw5 dishwasher tripped my rcd. When I opened the door the water leak or water hose damaged light was illuminated on the control panel although my wife had prevoiusly opened the door. Now the dishwasher still trips my rcd but only when you close the door.Is the problem easily solved or should I call somebody out?
Many thanks.
I fixed it myself, I removed covers and eventually found a cable's insulation had melted onto the front door's insulation creating a short to the metal casing. Job done, wife is happy, I am going down the pub.I fixed it myself, I removed covers and eventually found a cable's insulation had melted onto the front door's insulation creating a short to the metal casing. not necessary-- yet-- to buy a new unit
tripping the rcd is an indication of earth leakage which could amount to water in the wall plug across pins, moisture across the power board, water in the motor, faulty heater element
what you need is an accredited electrician to run tests on the system to find the reason for the earth leakage that is tripping the rcd
the rcd works from microvolts and operates in nano seconds to prevent electrocution of the operator
testing before buying may save heaps of cash
check the 13a fuse in the plug if you have a heater fault it may well have taken the fuse out as well as the rdc the machine will also need checking to resolve the issue rcd's are very sensitive with most having a trip current of only 30Ma although the heater is first thing to check
THE RCD SWITCH is concealed on the inner side of the hindges of the door or on the top innerside of the door. it is a simple push switch which has a mechanism of push to on/off this switch has got stuck in off position. change this switch or spray a drop of rust removal oil. it will start functioning
The probably cause is a component in the dishwasher is leaking current to earth and tripping out an RCD. Common causes are the heater , pump and circulation pump. Also the wiring which goes into the door is prone to damage and rubbing on the metalwork of the door. You really need a multimeter to check components and isolate the offending component. It is possible to unplug individual parts , carefully insulate the wires , and see if it then trips.
just possibly take the kick panel off. On some smeg, there is a small suppressor capacitor on the lhs tucked in the wiring. this breaks down. snip it off - no need to replace
the heater is faulty(shorted) and check that the hot water is getting to the appliance as the buzzing is the soliniod being powered but the water is not passing through
I fixed it myself, I removed covers and eventually found a cable's insulation had melted onto the front door's insulation creating a short to the metal casing. Job done, wife is happy, I am going down the pub.
