Why does my TV show discolored vertical bands and can I fix it at home?

The T-con board controls the picture elements on the screen. Usually replacing this board will solve the problem. If you can touch the screen and the lines disappear and later reappear, that says the screen itself is defective. The only fix is to replace the entire screen.

This seems like an internal problem, and can only be solved by an experienced television troubleshooter, I suggest taking it to a professional.

Sony KV-32FV27 Picture Discoloration

It appears that the greenish discolored area could be cause by the Yoke or it could also be some magnetization on the screen as well.
If it's the yoke that moved slightly out of position, it can be adjusted, but i would suggest to let a repair tech do it due a high voltage around the area.
Try unplugging the TV for some time and plug it back in and hopefully the demagnetizer circuitry might be able to clear the greenish spot.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Pictures has discoloration

The main video processor, or the input board, or something with screen backplane is failing. This has to be determined from proper diagnostics.

You will have to send the set in for service to fix this. If the set is out of warranty, this can be expensive to service.

Picture discoloration to left and right of screen.....

Hi! Guy,
This sounds like the G2 may not be properly adjusted, providing too much beam current.
This will some times cause feather edging, or lighter than normal raster on some scenes. This set should be serviced by a qualified service tech.

Side shadows on picture

it sounds as if there are speakers to close to the tv or the built in speakers are not magnetically sheilded properly (maufacturer defect) if u have or have ever had speakers on the left and right side of your tv then the magnets in them will discolor and distort the screen. sometimes even long after the speakers have been moved away from the tv it will still look that way. you may try going to the library( or online )and looking in tv repair books on how to build a homade degauser unless your tv has that feature built into it in the menu somewhere like some computer monitors do. I had placed the front speaker of a 5.1 surround sound system on top my tv and it cuased that same problem, but i found out that by placing a small round magnet with a hole in the center on top of the tv (after removing the speaker for good) right where the discoloration was.. had to flip it one side or the other to get proper effect...it immediatly took away most of the discoloration and over time it disappeared. I hope this helps. Please email me at agclay777@comcast.net as to your conclusion in case it will help others. thanks, Adam

Mitsubishi WS-65511 Rear Projection Big Box TV resets with a green flashing light every 5 minutes, Then works fine for 5 more minutes (perfect picture). Acts up worse when cold. Warm it up Works hours It's NOT the DM board caps. I've already replaced the DM caps twice. Not the problem. No repairman will look at the set. Too Old. So am I. I could repair it with help. The power supply must have a safety circuit that will shut down & reset if too much draw. I DON'T have a diagram. I'm not sure how to trace it . Which board? If I unplug boards one at a time, Will it damage other boards ? I know it is NOT the 7 DM board caps everyone keeps telling me. I see no burn't parts, No bulging caps. Tapping on components doesn't reset. What kind of component would act up when cold , But not overdraw when warm? This set has the best beautiful picture when it runs. If you can get past the resetting every 5 minutes for the first hour, You can watch it sometimes for 20 hours. I've left it on at night & it is still on the next morning. Change the channel Or raise the volume, And off it goes. Once or 10 times, Keeps resetting. Then on for 4 or more hours, Maybe. I can't afford a new one. It works GREAT ! when it works. I've notice that even when the set is turned off, The green light starts flashing (resetting itself while it's off) , Then stops. Once in a hundred times it will kick off the breaker & you need to push reset with a pin on the front panel next to the green light. It's probably a 10 cent resistor OR a $ 1.00 cap. If I only had someone with more knowledge than me to help. I know how to use a meter & read a schematic. I built a Heathkit 25"TV in the 70's & all my novice ham gear. I'm 64 & not familiar with digital circuits. Can someone help PLEASE ?
