The tv capacitor or IC on the main board is blowned up and that loud pop which you heard was of slight busting of this component on the main board.you will just have to check out the main board and replace that blown component.also also check out the whole board to locate exactly where the circuit got break and caused this loud pop due to over voltage passed in the circuit board.and after that also check at the socket where you have connected the power wire of the tv if any thing got short there this can happen again so get it checked first before reconnecting in the same power outlet.this will solve your problem
thanks.

It will take a visit from a technician to fix your television. There are multiple reasons this could have happened, and only an inspection by a qualified service person can determine what happened and why.

If you have the troubleshooting skills let us know and someone can find the schematics for your tv and tell you what results you should be getting from your tests with a multi meter.

Welcome to Fixya! I have noticed Recently a LOT of Plasma Tv's with the Same Problem. You can check the Boards and Power Supply But, Ultimately the Vast majority of People are Returning the TV to the Manufacturer or Locating an Authorized Repair Center Or Purchasing a New one due to the High Cost of Repair.

If the TV is a rear projection the lamp may have gone.

If the TV is a CRT, you may have had a short on the alignment boards near to the deflection yoke.

Last night our TV made a loud popping noise then the picture went out. We still have sound but have trouble turning the TV off. What could this be and is it fixable? Thanks, Anne Marie Orcutt

Hi,
Question shows it is Vizio L32 lcd tv and symptom shows back light inverter board for defective for some reason and loud noise would be popping of any chip on inverter board.
Shopjimmy..com has replacement boards of that model on reasonable price and local tv repairman will replace defective board after checking/ testing the tv.
Hope these info will help.
Thanks.

On one minute then POP loud noise, burning smell

Loud popping and loss of power is common on plasma TVs and is usually either the Y sustain or Z sustain boards or buffers; in these instances the damaged part will be quite evident.

If this is an LCD you might have degraded insulation on one of the pink/blue backlight power leads causing high voltage to 'arc' to the chassis.

The loud bang and smell is actually to your advantage as in these circumstances the damaged part is usually evident. It'll just be a matter of popping the back off and sleuthing around. :)

Loud popping noise

The 23" CRT set may have a high voltage breakdown in the flyback transformer or focus divider. Take the back off and operate the set in a dark room. Look for anything that has a blue glow around it or sparks flying when the pop occurs. I won't guarantee this will find your problem, but it is definitive if you see these!

I once had a set with these symptoms. I stopped the blue glow and arcing by covering the focus divider with epoxy. It worked for a couple of months before the divider literally broke apart.

Loud bang, unit stopped working

I have seen the caps in the power supply vent, which means they get hot and the top pops up and splits open, resulting in the "bang" sound. If you have experience in electronics then remove the back of the set and examine the power supply, looking for any caps whose tops are bowed upward, and replace.
