Question about Motorola Mobility RAZR V3

Screen on my Razr won't turn on

Ok randomly out of the Blue my razor screen just stopped working inside or out. The keypad hasn't lit up since i got the phone 2 years ago which is no big deal.

The only time either screen while light up is if the phone is turned off and I plug it in to charge it. If the phone is on this won't work the screens stay off, however the phone will still work like normal. I have tried removing the battery, SIM card, the cover and making sure the connector was still tight, the squeeze method...

None of this will work the thing that bugs me is the lights coming on only when the phone is off... I took it in to Centennial and of course "get a new phone" was their major deal.

I do not have a regular phone and haven't had a chance recently to upload my phonebook to my PC so I have some numbers that will be lost :( I would appreciate any help on this!

Thanks for the response. It's actually acted even more weird since i posted this.

I've had a few occasions where the Outside screen has worked only for a short period (basically one call) and once i open the phone it stops.

That has only happened twice. Now I have opened the phone myself and looked at the connector it looked fine not loose at all. (I have repairs V3's outside screens before and have electronics experience)

The only thing I can think of would be an issue between the two phone parts. Which makes no sense for coming out of the blue. Another thought was software related... which also confuses me.

I find it funny that these issues only started to show their head when my contract was about to expire.

Hi, first I am puzzled that your phone will light up if it is plugged in but not on the battery. It makes it sound like there is a short from the battery to that specific area. If it wasn't for that I would agree that you have a loose wire and that is usually fixed by the squeeze method.
I believe your phone needs tested to know where the problem really lies. This can be done by anyone that has the tools and knows how to work on a v3.
If it is the connector this would be my input.
I understand that you have tried the squeeze method for trying to make sure the connector has not come loose but that doesn't always work. It only takes about 5 minutes for a person that has the correct tools and knows what they are doing to take the v3 apart and verify that the connector is tight. It is possible that the connector going to the caller ID screen is also loose and should be checked. Unfortunately these connectors can work loose and when you take them to the phone shops they usually won't work on the, unless that is all they do is repairs. They always want you to get a new phone instead of either reconnecting or possibly replacing it. Feel free to e-mail me (living2give@gmail.com)

this is intriguing. It sounds like there is a short or something is loose. I know that with the age of the cell phone it could be that it needs to have the one or both of the flex cables replaced. It sounds like it is the main flex cable that is giving problems because you stated that when you open it the screen changes. The flex cable has a piece that is actually inside the **** shell opening (the bend that allows the v3 to open and close). When they get old they can actually start to separate. If your familiar with the flex cable you might try to replace it. You can do it for about $7

My phone's keypad just lights up for few second the moment i turn it on then turns off again without a light on the screen .can you help me fix this problem?my phone is a razr v3 model.

Hi,when a Razor v3 has a light issues isuaully caused by the flex of the phone.

The flex of the phone is located inside the phone, it controls the functions of the screen an also the keypads of the phone and the light.

The flex is a thread like object that is located inside the phone. To see the flex, you will need to disassemble the phone to get to the flex of the phone.

After replacing the phone flex, your done.

You can get a replacement flex from any of the phone repair stores around you.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for using fixya...

Razr- turning on camera makes screen turn black but keypad stays lit

the easiest thing tpo do here is take it to a professional but if you want to try updating your software off the Motorola website. (this require a data cable or bluetooth in your computer) This fixes a lot of software problems with the razor. If this doesn't work then you will have to reflash your Firmware which is like the Windows Xp of the phone. This does require a professional as it can destroy the phone
