Question about Miele Washing Machines

1 Answer

Miele 3204 won't spin or drain

The drain light keeps coming on and I have had to empty it manually 3 times and it is full of water. I have checked the troubleshooting manual and the drain filter was empty, the impeller is rotating freely. It did chew up a fluffy bath mat last week and I wondered if the fluff was now locking the outlet hose....but it was fine for a week. I don't know how to check this hose or what else to do. I don't really understand the difference between the fluff filter the drain filter and the drain pump as mentions in the manual. I have simply drained it and check that there are no objects and that the impeller is moving. Any help will be gratefully received....kids coming home from uni very soon!!! Best regards, Sylvia

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.

Your filter of the water inlet valve is accessible outside the machine; it is at the water entry point. Close your faucet & check this out; this gets clogged often.

SOURCE: W640 - Water Outlet Fault

I solved this problem this morning, after several months with intermittent "water outlet fault" error messages.

Our pin trap was cleared many times over the months. The propellor turned freely. However, the problem persisted.
So I unplugged the machine, removed the back panel (8 or so hex screws) and located the point where the drainage hose meets the water draining pump. I then separated the hose from the pump and found 2 United States 10-cent pieces lodged together with gunk that effectively blocked the drainage hose. 10-cent pieces ("dimes") are the perfect diameter to get stuck there and not appear in the pin trap where you could easily see and remove them.

Three loads later, the machine is working according to spec. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Stops before rinse cycle... won't drain or spin.

The REGULAR CYCLE button turns the drain pump on or off. The REGULAR LED will turn
on when the pump is on. This feature can be used to drain the tub. You could get a bucket and lay the hose on the fllor. Gravity will drain it down.

Water keeps filling up the drum and inlet light flashes

either the inlet water valve is bad and needs to be replaced or the controller for it is not cutting off the electricty to it, If you are going to replace something, replace the water inlet solenoid valve.

Check drain light comes on and machine will not spin or empty

You probably have a blocked sump. Empty the machine by hand and remove as much water as possible because you will need to remove the sump hose which is under the machine, place a shallow bowl or dish under it before taking it off or you could flood the floor. I've no idea what machine or model you have but you will probably need to tilt the machine away from the sump (if it is at the rear of the machine then tilt it forward ) undo the clamp holding it on and carefully pull it free from the tub, clean it out and replace it

My Miele dishwasher has water in the bottom of it and won't run

Check the impeller on the pump to make SURE it's turning freely. There could be a piece of debris wedged in there - like glass or a screw from a pot handle. If this is redundant, I apologize.

Whilst the machine was still on i patially undone the filter cap and removed a full tray of water, it then began to spin. What could yhe problem be?

Water still in the bottom of the drum. Empty, clean filter and check pump is turning. Once pressure switch is satisfied no water is left it'll allow the door to open, assuming the door interlock is still ok.

Will not empty water

Hi.

If the machine does not drain you usually have drain blockage. Clean the drain well at the bottom of the tub. remove and clean filter and assembly parts. Make sure that the drain hose at the back of the dishwasher is not kinked.

Several Miele dishwasher uses a pressure switch to determine the water level. A defective pressure switch may prevent the machine from starting.
If this model uses a pressure switch, the switch will be located in the drain line. When a pressure switch is defective the machine should return an error code. Here a picture of the pressure switch:

If that does not fix the problem the pump located under the bottom panel must be tested.

Machine had been giving E20 error code - filter cleared and it re-started ok. When wash was in progress - jammed at rinse stage and all lights came on (except spin speeds) and humming noise and nothing...

E20 is an error code for drainage failure.

Check where the appliance drain hose connects to the house drains for a blockage.

If it's onto a spigot under the sink, take them off and check both for a blockage.

If these are ok then it's likely to be a blockage in the pump.

You'll need to drain the water out manually.

Put a shallow dish below the filter and slacken the filter.

Tighten it to stop the flow of water while you empty the dish.

Once empty, take the filter out, clean out the debris and ensure nothing is left jamming the pump.

Before refitting the filter, put the machine on drain or spin and listen at the filter housing to see if you can hear the pump running.

If you do, fit the filter and try the machine again.
