Check that the shifter bar on the bottom of the ice bin is moving to shift from cubed ice to crushed. With the ice bin out you should see movement in the back wall of the freezer with the light switch button held in while changing the dispenser controls from cubed to crushed. Most of the time the bin has been removed and not put back in properly. When this happens ice blocks the drive motor. Remove the bin and turn the auger by hand make sure it will turn and is not jammed. Now with the bin out push the light button in that turns the light out and have someone push the button for ice while the door is still open the motor should turn in the back make sure thereis no ice blocking it. If it turns nothing is wrong with the motor. The clicking sound is usually the motor jammed by ice or the auger not engaged on the motor. hope this helps good luck

brass colored rod. Now, if you look inside your freezer section. you

dispenser back and forth from crushed to cube. It could be stuck or not working

I have a GE TFX25ppbaaa refrigerator. The ice maker corkscrew motor would run and provide crushed ice only. The corkscrew motor would not run when the switch was moved to the cubed ice ( half moon) setting.
I replaced the large Light/ water/ crushed ice/cubed ice switch , ( product service number GEH WR55X129 ) ( part number GE 162D6372 PO17 )and it fixed the problem. Cost was about $43.00.
If The ice maker has completely stopped producing ice
Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.
The ice maker is producing ice poorly
When an ice maker is producing ice poorly--when it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve.
First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

There should be a solenoid behind the ice bucket that moves an metal arm on the ice bucket to move the crush teeth away for cubes or keeps the crush teeth in place for crushed cubes. Bad solenoid, bad wire at the solenoid, broken solenoid/mechanism piece, bent arm, no power from dispenser to the solenoid are -some- possible trouble makers.
Also the solenoid that controls the crush/cube function is probably frozen. First, pull out your ice bucket. On the bottom of the bucket is a long metal rod the runs all the way to the back wall of the freezer. That rod runs into a little square hole in the back of the freezer. The hole is about 1 and half inches square. Just put your finger in there and see if the solenoid plunger moves up and down easily. If it doesn't move, then it is frozen. Just hit that area with a hair dryer and it will release. If it moves easily, then make sure that the the rod on the ice bucket is seated in there properly
There is a solinoid in the freezer section by the motor that turns the ice auger. Test it by selecting cubes and with the ice bucket out, open the door, hold the door switch so the lights turn out and push the dispenser button. It should make a loud snap and travel upward. If not then I would say you have a bad solinoid. If it does, then I would look at the bucket. the metal rod that runs along the side of the bucket opens a flap in the bucket that is supposed to let the full cubes drop. look for anything that might cause it to be hanging up.
THE SOLENOID IN THE ON THE ICE MAKER MOTOR IS NOT WORKING IT HAS ICE BUILD UP ON IT OR IT HAS A SHORT IT PULLS THE PLUNGER THAT OPENS THE FLAP THAT LET ICE CUBES FALL OUT. REMOVE ICE MAKER AND THER ARE 2 5/16 SCREWS THAT HOLD PANEL IN THEN UN PLUG MOTOR AND USE HAIR DRYER & DEFROST MOTOR AND SOLENOID SHOULD WORK IF NOT MAY NEED TO REPLACE SOLENOID.
Behind the ice bucket is a metal housing that holds the auger motor and solenoid. The solenoid is bad. When you go for cubed ice that solenoid should pull up the metal rod on the ice bucket so full cubes will come out. First check to make sure the metal rod on the ice bucket isn't somehow caught under the solenoid and not letting if move up and down. You can take out the ice bucket and press for cubed ice. You should hear a loud clunk noise. If not then you know the solenoid is not working.
