Converting/ syncing dvds to 2GB mp3 player model: SMPK2242
I've been trying to convert some of my dvds to my video MP3 player, but everything fails. I have downloaded multiple dycripters and converters that convert to the desirable AVI format, but I still have not been successful... Could you tell me the exact dycripter, converter, and steps I need to follow to get video on my sylvania model SMPK2242 video mp3 player? I would be extremly grateful for help!

I have the same player as well. When you got the player you should have got a small istallation CD as well. Put it in the CD drive and go to the folder MP3set5_09,click setup, and it will install MP3 Player Utilities 5.09, which has a(n) AVI converter for the mp3 player.Choose the file you want to convert (input) and where the new AVI file will appear(output). Ex.My Documents. When its done converting, drag and drop to your mp3. I have used this method everytime and always works. Hope this helps.

VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player supporting most audio and video formats (H.264, Ogg, DivX, MKV, TS, MPEG-2, mp3, MPEG-4, aac, ...) from files, physical media (DVDs, VCD, Audio-CD), TV capture cardsand many network streaming protocols. It can also convert media files, transcode and act as a streaming server over unicast or multicast and IPv4 orIPv6. It doesn't need any external codec, program or codec pack to work.
For more information please visit the website. If you still don't have the installer of VLC Media Player you can download it here. OpenVLC Media player then click on Media. On the drop down select Convert/Save
On the Open Media window click on Add
Locate then select the file that needs to be converted then click on open
Once the file has been added click on the dropdown arrow (lower part of the window) then select convert
Click on browse to select the destination on where the file will be saved.
Onthe Profile drop down select Audio - MP3 as the profile
Once the profile has been selected click on Start to begin the conversion process
Check the status bar to observe the conversion progress
Once finished you can now play the newly converted audio file in MP3 format. That's all folks . . .
You have several options. But important one to understand is the limitations of a PIII computer like Armada e500. You may not have enough grunt to convert stuff, even after buying the necessary video capture devices which work on USB.
Also I am assuming you either have the jvc camcorder still available or atleast have a VHS-C to VHS adapter to play the tapes on a standard VHS tape player.
Unless you are having a lot tapes and need editing while converting, your better bet might be to go to one of the shops that convert these tapes on to DVD or a suitable flash drive which might work out cheaper and quicker.
The last time I did this thing (quality of my VHS-C tapes was bad) I bought a Samsung combined VHS Video / DVD recorder and used the dubbing feature to burn DVDs. Cost me about $150 a year ago. I was able to do some editing on the way as I was connected to the TV screen as well. Saved me the hassles of dealling with the PC type video capture devices and software.
Are the files actually .mp3 format? There are a few different compressed formats available now and some mp3 players etc are not compatible with these formats.
Older players (and some current ones) for instance will not play .wma files which are Windows Media Audio files.
What you have is all a matter of converting mp3 files so you can put it on your player. There are many programs that do this, I prefer a program called tunebite. In that specific program you simply drop the files you want converted in and then select the output file type at the top as .MP3. It will drop the files into a tunebite folder in "My Documents" unless otherwise selected. You can then drag those to your portable device.
If you want another program or cannot find a serial number I can help with both. SImply message me or email me.
