Not sure if this will help with that specific problem, but I recently upgraded the video driver in my Acer 6930-6809 laptop to the latest version available from Intel.

The VISTA driver (IntelGraphicsMediaAcceleratorDriver-winvista_15.12.1.1608.exe) updates other media drivers as well as the video driver. My video driver after installing this media accelerator driver updated to ver 7.15.10.1608.

For Windows XP, the latest graphics driver is version 14.37.0.5009 (6.14.10.5009). Both versions are available from the Intel website downloads area at this URL -
<http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2991&lang=eng>

You are not required to uninstall the old driver prior to installing the newer one. After the install, you will need to reboot the computer to activate the latest version of the drivers.

Screen driver problem notebook

Might be a hardware problem as well. To make sure it is not, boot to "VGA mode" (see below), keeping the external monitor disconnected, and see if the problem is still there on the laptop screen. If the problem disappears, then it's more than likely that a driver update will solve your issue. If this is the case, uninstall the driver for your graphic card, download the latest one from the manufacturer's website and install it. If not, then you need a more in-depth look, maybe you have a faulty LCD display.

To boot to VGA mode, press "F8" repeatedly while rebooting your computer and select the appropriate choice from the black and white bootloader screen that will appear.

Hi

It seems that you need to use the latest driver for the graphic card.

You can do that through visiting the manufacture's website, choose your laptop model, OS, look for video (vga) driver, and download it.
Please tell us your results

Thin white vertical line from top to bottom of screen about 1/3 of the way from the left side of the monitor.

That is either a screen problem or VGA driver/decoder problem.
Can you plug your laptop into an external display? That will tell you which is at fault.
New screens are fairly inexpensive from ebay etc.
If you have the same problem on an external display, the VGA decoder is inbuilt on the main motherboard and not easily replaced.
Hope this helps.

If you have access to an external display, plug the VGA output from your laptop into it to ensure the laptop is OK.
If the laptop is OK and it is the laptops screen that is faulty, check ebay for a replacement screen.
Having an LCD display with a VGA input is a sure way to find out where your fault lies.
If the VGA screen does not work, then maybe the laptops display driver is corrupt. Go onto the Gateway web site and down load a fresh driver with a working laptop and copy the driver onto a USB Memory stick, set your laptop to boot from USB and load the driver into your system.
If that doesn't work, take it to a repair shop for an estimate of just look on ebay for another one and copy your files to the new one.

Hello, Matt.

Sounds like a conflict with your VGA card driver.

From Safe Mode, go to Add/Remove programs and remove anything related to graphics. Go to Device Manager and remove/uninstall any listings for Graphics Adapter.

When you restart, install the drivers from the CD. If the drivers need to be "executed" as a program, cancel out of the driver install and run the drivers program when you get into Windows.

Hope this helps.

My laptop screen display has changed from landscape to portrait ie it is showing the display from bottom to top instead of left to right?

For that when you power up the laptop press F8 key then you can see safe mode and other menu.
Enter in "Enable vga mode "
thne go to start menu ->control panel->display ->settings.
Change screen resolution to 1024*768 then apply and ok.
Then restart laptop then check.
If still same issue then enter in safe mode uninstall vga graphic driver then reinstall it.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using fixya.

Turning on my laptop

Hello Norm

This is Romeet, id like to try and help with this. Sounds a lot likely to be either Display Driver problem, System Memory or VGA Memory Problem. However we shall try and use the easiest ( Cost Friendly ) method first lols..

Start your Laptop in Safe Mode.

Right Click your " My Computer " icon and select properties.

Go to Display Adapters / VGA Controllers and right click your display adapter and restart your laptop.

WIndows should be able to pick your display drivers again on rebooting and let me know if this solves the problem

All the Best!
