My Dyson had exactly the same problem. I found the problem was caused by a blockage in the hose. Take the hose out where it joins the cleaner (it will come out if you pull it downwards gently) and take the hose out of the handle by squeezing the yellow buttons on either side. I pushed a rubber alkathene pipe down and found a piece of plastic was blocking it even though at first I was sure it wasn't blocked.
Hi.
You will have A blockage in either flex hose or metal wand.
To prove this Remove the hose completely from machine switch machine on there should be good suction from where hose connected to machine.
this will prove if hose or wand are blocked.
To remove blockage slide boom handle down hose to push out blockage same with wand if thats blocked.

my Dyson DC05 has hardly any suction but seems to have plenty of power and there is air blowing out of a cylindrical yellow valve on the top of the cannister. My filters are clean. I don't think the hose is blocked so what can I do to fix the problem?
