My DC05 Dyson suction has stopped...there are no blockages, the seals are good, there seems to be more suction coming from a yellow box which is situated at the top of the removable cannister. There is nothing obvious'

my Dyson DC05 has hardly any suction but seems to have plenty of power and there is air blowing out of a cylindrical yellow valve on the top of the cannister. My filters are clean. I don't think the hose is blocked so what can I do to fix the problem?

My Dyson had exactly the same problem. I found the problem was caused by a blockage in the hose. Take the hose out where it joins the cleaner (it will come out if you pull it downwards gently) and take the hose out of the handle by squeezing the yellow buttons on either side. I pushed a rubber alkathene pipe down and found a piece of plastic was blocking it even though at first I was sure it wasn't blocked.

Hi.

You will have A blockage in either flex hose or metal wand.

To prove this Remove the hose completely from machine switch machine on there should be good suction from where hose connected to machine.
this will prove if hose or wand are blocked.

To remove blockage slide boom handle down hose to push out blockage same with wand if thats blocked.

Hi Helen,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC05. From what you've described, it sounds as if the machine may have overheated in use - this will occur if the filter needs a wash, or if the machine has a blockage. You should find the machine will run again after it's had at least two hours to cool down, but to prevent this from reoccuring, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc05/dc05-standard/my-machine-is-not-working/power-failure

It's lost suction even though we've cleaned the filters. Is there anything else we can clean?

Yes. Remove the hose, disconnect all the different sections and visually check for blockages. Make sure you check the cleaning head as well. If nothing is visible reassemble by adding ONE SECTION AT A TIME and check the suction by switching the power on and seeing if the hose will stay stuck to your hand when you turn it upside down. If you find that the suction dies after re-attaching a particular section, then there is a blockage in that section. Make sure you re-connect all sections of hose fully and correctly.

Try this and report back.

The suction is only coming through the handle for using the attachments and i can't get it to suction from the bottom.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Sounds like you have a blockage in the extension tube or floor tool. With the extension tube removed from the wand and floor tool hold it up to the light. you should be able to see if it is blocked.

We have online support at www.dyson.co.uk which you may find useful, or if you are still experiencing difficulties, please call our Helpline free on 0800 298 0298.

Weak suction on dyson dc05. The suction is not as good as usual

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Try washing your pre filter and checking the machine through for a blockage. These are the most likely causes.

A full blockage procedure and filter washing instructions can be found at www.dyson.co.uk/support.

Suction is not so powerful

Check for blockages and make sure the washable filter is clean (it must be completely dry before putting it back after washing).

Dyson DC05 problem with filters.

First, and for sure, the problem is in the collection unit (CU), not the filter.  Is it possible that something is missing from the CU?  When you remove the CU to empty it, and you lift off the top, a conical yellow part remains attached to the inside of the lid; another yellow part remains in the bottom of the CU, with a big black rubber seal on top.
I think the problem you describe will occur if that black rubber seal is missing, displaced or damaged (perhaps it dropped out with the dirt and you didn't notice).  A healthy seal between those two yellow parts inside the CU is essential.
Please rate my response if this helps.  If it doesn't help, also let me know and I'll think again.

Not sucking up
Posted by Smudge935 on May 02, 2008
Hi, I have a Dyson DC05 and initially it sucks up ok then stops. On investigation the dust particles are ending up in the pre-motor filter instead of the canister.
I have checked for blockages, and cleaned filters. Any ideas????

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Something is blocking the path of the dirt to the canister and it should not be going directly to the motor filter (diverter valve) that is supposed to be a backup just in case. So that the motor does not burn up, please check with you local vacuum cleaner dealer for a schematic or a product breakdown.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
