Check input signal strength, digital is very sensitive to loss.

This means that the memory is not working as it seems that the memory back up is not effective. it can be fault on the processor IC as the voltages , the data IN/OUT signals must be checked.
If voltage to back up is absent then there will be memory loss. If not the IC must be replaced, use proper soldering/desoldering irons with static protection when replacing.

you have a programing error in the main control ic it ca be repaired but its $$$$$$ my guess is 150.00 -200.00 the control ic has a modified control memory the memory is held in place by a charged capacator if you unplug it and leave it for a week and plug it back in it might be ok for a while if not try unplug it for a month . that might be enough for a reset but the problem will keep comeing back the chip is damaged

Fortunately, I have not had the fuzzy green screen problem in quite awile, and since getting the Dish, I have not had to worry about channel memory loss. I am thinking about turning this one into a computer monitor...is this even possible... and getting a bigger tv for the front room, HD of course.

You need to find out why the set is blanking the video. In order of being common: 1. AKB circuit. AKB circuit is seeing a very unbalanced crt and blanks the video. To fix replace the crt. 2. Loss of vertical deflection. 3. Problem on the data or clock lines. If you can change channels and the volume, this is ok. 4. Loss of h-sync return pulse to the micro or jungle ic.
