Re: printer fixes?

What blinking light patterns do you have? Many times it is related to a printhead failure. Please post the pattern and I will research it for you. I know I will not make any points for this, however, refilled ink cartridges can and do accelerate printhead failure. Please post light patterns before rating this solution. Ed

It is getting difficult to print because a notice keeps telling us 'waste Ink Near Full'. We don't know where the waste ink is or how to empty it.

It seems that access to the waste ink pads involves a bit of dis assembly. Some people have resorted to extending a tube from withing the printer to an external waste ink receptacle. However you still need to reset the ink counter.

As [I assume] all that has happened is the printer has been packed and moved, possibly a slight knock has caused a contact dislodge.
So remove the printer head and reinstall it.
Then remove the printer software from the computer and reinstall it.
See what happens.
Further advice can be obtained from

Check the capabilities of the printer in the manual. But in general- to get black general purpose printers print all colours. This is the normal way to get a black black in the CYMK process. Some printers offer black only as a setting or a special black/monochrome ink. Some specialist ink suppliers[Lycos] will offer a 'black set' that is where the colour carts are replaced with a shades of grey. Where does your printer come in this scheme of things also take a look here

The printer has a Reset mode- somewhere. But different makers/models have different settings. Try the manual and if not mentioned there try the Canon website. Failing that try this- with the printer switched off press a combination of 2 buttons[any 2] with them pressed switch the printer on did it reset?- then try another combination. take a look also at also here
