IS THIS A AUTOMATIC DEFROST UNIT? IF SO THEN THE DEFROST CLOCK PROBABLY IS BAD, LOOK UNDERNEITH BY THE COMPRESSOR AND THERE SHOULD BE A SQUARE ISH BAX THAT HAS 4 WIRES COMING OUT OF IT. TAKE AND TURN THE RED KNOB WITH A SCREW DRIVWER UNTIL THE COMPRESSOR COMES ON. IF THAT WAS NOIT IT TAKE A HAIR DRIER AND HEAT UP THE LIDUID LINE DRIER SOME TO TRY TO CLEAR THE RESTRICTION ON THE DRIER. GOOD LUCK (SORRY ABOUT ALL CAPS BUT GOT TIRED OF CORECTING THE SPELLING) NOT SHOUTING

Can I transport one of your 2 door Fridge/ freezers laying on its side.

only transport a fridge or freezer on it's side if the upright transport is NOT an option.
any chiller using compressed liquid/gas and placed on it's side should be left for 24 hours to settle before powering at the mains, this will allow the coolant time to sink where it should be and prevent the pump (& chiller) from failing.

when you move a refrigerator laying down you are supposed to wait at least 3 hours before plugging the unit in to the wall in order for the oil inside the compressor to settle to the bottom of the compressor if you were to plug the unit in before this amount of time hopefully the oil did not stick inside the line or else you would have to call a compressor repair technician you can also try leaving the machine unplugged for 24 hours if you did plug it in before the 3 hour period which may allow the oil inside the compressor to settle back down to the bottom again if you have any further questions message me back and please remember to rank how this opinion has helped it allows me to help others in similar situations Thanks Rick
p.s if after waiting 24 hours it still did not get cold you would need to call a technician

I have a stainless steel Amana model ABC2037DES that was given to me. It has been plugged in for 24 hours and it is not freezing anything or making ice. The refridgerator is not cold enough either. ...

if the compressor is working it could be a thermostat problem
I think that if you check for a reset button at the back to get the compressor running , that will fix the problem

Both Lights flashing and fridge not getting cold

I turned the fridge and freezer off using the circular dials, I then turned the unit off at the mains. Left it for a few minutes and then turned the power back on. I then turned the circular dials to "max" and then depressed the super cool and super freeze buttons to turn this facility on. This time they came on normally (not flashing) and no alarm sounded. The fridge and freezer then started to get cold. Once the unit had been running for several hours I then turned the dials to the 3/4 mark and depressed the super cool and super freeze buttons again to turn them off. Over night the fridge and the freezer appear to be working properly so I hope that my problem is solved. Maybe the unit just needed to "settle" before being switched on?

Is it ok to transport a refrigerator on it's side?

Not true. Refers since the 1950's are sealed units but for safety's sake let it sit for awhile after you move it.

Can I transport a whirpool side by side refrigerator / freezer, laying it down on it's side for 5 hours? If when I reach my destination I stand it upright for 48 hrs. before I plug it in.

The short answer is yes, but the key is to make certain not to plug in and start the fridge for at least 24 hours once it is upright and in the final location.

The reasons manufacturers caution against transporting/moving a fridge on it's side also has to do with the possibility of damaging the doors and hinge plates. The big reason is because people tend to want to start filling up their new fridge with food right away, so they plug it in once it's in their house.

If a fridge has been shipped on its' side, the compressor oil tends to wick/flow into the piping and can cause a failure, if not allowed to drain back into the compressor when the fridge is placed back upright.

Although not the best way to transport, you can do it if you allow time for things to settle back before powering it up.

Food is defrosting in my hotpoint frost free fridge/freezer

Can you hear the compressor running? Is the fan inside the freezer running? It could be that a wire connection has come loose during the move. Was the fridge laid on it's side during the move? If so you probably have compressor oil restricting the refrigerant system. If compressor and fan are running you will probably need a qualified refrigeration tech to check it out.
