Im sure it would also have a audio jack apart from the docking station through which you can connect any input device to the station.....they would then work as normal speakers....but not a 'dock' where you can park your mp3 player

SOURCE: Bose docking statoin

They both use the same speakers, my personal opinion deems they are both the same. However the second SoundDock charges via USB pin, so it is future proof for future iPods.

SOURCE: bose docking station chip broke off

I had the same problem that the ipod would onl play when I pulled it forward in the dock. Looking closely, I saw that some of the pins on the left hand side of the connector were bent forward, so I bent them back with a needle:

(ie. pushing the pins to the right, as shown here). This solved the problem for me.

If your connector is too far gone, I suggest looking to:

http://www.chargeconverter.com/shop/connector.htm

for a new connector for £3-4 or

http://www.chargeconverter.com/shop/connector.htm

for a whole PCB (Printed Circuit Board) replacement for £10-15.

Hope this helps...

SOURCE: new ipod won't charge on bose docking station

I have been looking for sometime and have finally found a 3rd party power converter. Another solution is to send your docking station to Bose and for $99.00 they will repin the dock so charging will work. The converter and adapter only cost about $30.00. Here is the link to the site I ordered from. I just ordered it so I am not abot to confirm functionality yet.....

Sounds like it's either a problem with the connector on the iPod or on the dock. To find our which see if it works okay on another dock - if you know anybody with one our text it on a demo model in a store. Or it could also be the plastic dock adapter - take our the adapter and try docking without the adapter.

BOSE MP3 docking station Can you resolder the four pins on circuit board? Or do you just throw away the whole unit? Thanks

Unless you know what you're doing, it's probably best to take it in for repairs to someone trustworthy or a local repair shop or get rid of it.

You have an old version of the Bose dock. You can go to the Bose store and get an adapter for the new I pod. Some docks come with 2-3 different type of adapter to patch the generation gap.

No. The "docking station" may have a auxiliary line input which you could plug a 3.5mm headphone jack into if you are looking for the speaker functionality but you will not be able to dock it.

There is some docking stations or players for the generic MP3 players but most don't even need them. A lot of them do have speakers attached but you can always get generic stations such as the one that IPOD offers or if you want to save some cash, just get some speakers that will attach to the player. There is a lot of products out there so shop around and even check out your major retailers such as Wal Mart
