Canon PIXMA 530 grinds away

Canon MP530 printer randomly makes grinding gear noises after printing. It's 2 years old and works fine other than random grinding sounds on start up or after printing.Ward

I have exactly the same problem. My PIXMA 530 makes a horrible grinding sound immediately after printing. I thought I may need to update the drivers, but could only find the PIXMA 520 drivers on the Canon site. I used those, but it still grinds. I would appreciate any advise!

Same grinding noise, sometime before, always after. I can't see what it is. Reseating the printer head doesn't help. I have used Canon ink cartridges all the time. Its a pity - the printer prints well (and in duplex), scans well, works as a photocopier, but the noise is awfully loud especially in the evening.

I had a persistant grinding noise about 30 seconds after the printer finished printing. It's been going on about 2 months. I did one thing which seemed to work. So try opening the cover on the back of the machine by lifting upward on the gray lever in the middle of the back of the machine. Leave this cover open during and after printing. The grinding noise went away.

The same problem started with mine when it was about four years old. The noise was so loud I thought it was self destructing. I read a fix which I believe came directly from Canon on another forum today, tried it and it worked:

    1. remove the color cartridges
    2. remove the printer head (lift the grey lever and rotate it forward)
    3. replace the printer head
    4. replace the color cartridges
    5. unplug the machine and plug it back in

How do you "rotate a level forward"? Is that CW or CCW? My level doesn't rotate in either direction.

I have the same horrible sound. Has happened since day #1 that I bought the printer. Needless to say, I will NEVER buy anything with the word "Canon" on it again.

Canon MP530 grinding noise. Tried 2 solutions in this forum - didn't work. Noise happens when printer is idle, after printing. Print head (carriage?) tries to 'park' when noise happens.

Someone, somewhere, suggested removing the cartridges and then the printer head, putting them back, and unplugging and then rebooting the printer. I do believe this has solved my problem. I had been living with the horrid grinding sound for many months, and now it is gone. I am crossing my fingers that this will last, because otherwise it's been a great all-in-one.

I have A Canon Pixma MP-530 Printer,Fax,Copy Machine that's a couple of years old. It recently started making some weird loud grinding noises although it's still functioning okay. Would anyone know what...

best bet would be to wait till it blows up or even purchase another now so when it does go out you dont have to wait long but maintenance on a machine of that age is always gonna be more costly than finding a new one

hope this helps

Canon PIXMA MP160 Printer is making a grinding noise. The paper is not feeding and getting error message. No Printing!!

Good day sir/maam, the gear on your printer that holds the print head/ink is stuck, loosen it by applying oil or contact cleaner, check your local dealer if they have warrantee for your printer. If you really want to do the repairs yourself the service is like this.
  • open the printer, and check what is causing the grinding. usually mechanical elements are involve.
  • remove dirt and clean the ink spill.
  • loosen the print head/ink, apply oil and contact cleaners.
  • check the contacts and connectivity of the mechanical parts with the main circuit board.
  • test parts and if needed, replace it.
  • test and retest. do everything again until the printer works.
Hope this may help, its kinda dirty but saves you money for service.

My canon pixma mp530 makes a loud noise most times when it powers up and when i print a document. It works OK otherwise.

My MP-530 would try to boot up making a noise like something slipping or grinding, ending with ERROR Code 5100.

Solution: Open the Lid. The drive belt was loose and not able to drive the carriage. There is a gear on the right side of the carriage and a pulley on the left side of the carriage. The spring which holds the pulley tight is missing or broken. I was not able to see the tension spring. To put tension on the pulley, to tighten the drive belt, I cut a Popsicle stick into a wedge and inserted it into the middle slot right of the pulley.
Close the lid and power back on. Runs like new. Hope this helps.

Gear grinding noise when copier operating

wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a toner cartridge. Have you had to replace it sine the noise began? Is it remanufactured / compatible? I won't be surprised if the grinding stops once it's replaced. Just my 2 cents.

When print is pressed the ink tanks go left & make a grinding noi

check the transport belt for the carriage and make sure the drive gear doesnt have a build up of rubber as the belt may be worn when going to home position.

Canon MP530 Makes Grinding Noise when printing starts

I had this same problem and called tech support. Instead of sending a new printer they had me

1 remove print Cartridges
2 remove print head
3 replace print head
4 replace print Cartridges
5 unplug power from the wall

This seemed to fix the problem.....for me anyway.....for now.

hope it helps

Makes grinding sounds & usually prints blank

Try new toner cartridge, or even the old one if you still have it. Check if the grinding noises go away.
