A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Windows 7 incompatibility
If you have Windows 7 Ultimate, it comes with a Windows XP mode that allows you to emulate windows xp. If you haven't already tried right clicking the exe or shortcut and clicking the compatibility tab and setting it to windows xp service pack 2 (not 3 for some strange reasons)

Above solution is a catch-all that does not address the issue. Windows 7 Aero apparently interferes with the graphics of the game. Download the fix which has been made by the fine people at http://cossacksworld.ucoz.co.uk/.
Unrar using winrar and follow the text file for help.

SOURCE: hi, i installed the original
You may need to reinstall the video adapter drivers.
First check video settings on computer and ensure they are set to max colors and resolution possible. You find the setting in control panel, under Display in XP and Personalize in Vista and 7.
Find details about the video adapter you are using, then go to manufacturer website (or to computer manufacturer website) and download updated drivers.

SOURCE: I am using Windows 7,
There appears to be a workaround to get it to work. Right click on the desktop and select Personalize. Select the Windows Classic theme. Leave the window open. Right click on the desktop and select Screen Resolution. Leave the window open. Now try starting American Conquest. This seems to work on the four systems that I've tried it on.
