Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer
My 13 year old and 10 year old girls decided to stuff a king down comforter, 2 king sheets and 2 twin down comforters in the wash and when it wouldn?t fit they sat on the floor of the laundry room and used their feet to make the door close. Now, the machine will not activate. It does turn on and let you choose options but the light on the cycle choice blinks and when you press start noting happens. After checking the basket nothing was off track and opening and closing the door gently I believe that the sensor that tells it when the door is closed is broken. The door closes fine. I have tried doing the manual control lock but it still won?t start. Any ideas??? If I am right and I need to replace the door sensor? does anyone know how to do that? Thanks for any help you guys!!!
Sounds like you, indeed, have a broken door latch. If the latch is not able to lock successfully, it will not go into any wash cycle and will exhibit the symptoms you are describing. The door was designed to be closed gently, not slammed or forced. To replace, you will need to do the following: 1. Unplug the machine. 2. Remove the bottom kick plate. 3. Remove the rubber door boot from the around the door opening. There should be a wire hoop holding it into a groove with a small tension spring located at the bottom of the door opening. Feel around the rubber lip and locate the tension spring. Stretch this spring and pull the wire hoop from the groove. 4. Remove the rubber boot from the outer seal and push towards the inside of the wash tub. This will give you access to the inside of the machine casing. 5. The door latch is located inside the casing on the right hand side. There are three screws holding it in from the outside and a wiring harness and retaining clip holding it from the inside. Use care when removing the wires from the old latch. The wires are small and can break. I hope this leads you in the right direction. Let me know if you need any further advice.
