How do I format the system on a dell latitude e5500?

Hi there,

The dell should have come with the OS software disk. If you are referring to reinstalling windows what you do is put in the Operating system disk, reboot your computer. When you are at the black screen at the beginning with the Dell logo, press f12 a few times until you see a menu show up with different devices to boot off of. Choose your CD/DVD drive. It will then tell you to press any button to boot from the CD. Once you do this it will boot into the installation disk of the Operating system. Follow the instructions and then make your choices of how you can format your computer. I hope this helps and if you need additional help feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you. Good luck!

While Booting My Desk top Precision 360 of DELL.I have SeagateST373453LW SCSI Hard disk.At start up disk is recognised but capacity is not. If I am Verifying or Formatting my drive throug Ctrl/A for...

There are a couple of things here..

First I am going to assume this is the LSI card that came with the Dell.

1. Since it is a RAID card, the formatting you are seeing may be referring to the RAID structure. Does the configuration utility ask you what format to be make the drive (i.e FAT, FAT32, NTFS, etc.)? If not, it may be doing that type of format. Also, you did not mention a second drive so the controller may be getting confused. If you have a boot disk/cd rom for the operating system you wish to load, try booting the disk. In a lot of cases, the operating system will format the drive to a particular format.

2. Make sure your controller and drive are not on the same channel. A lot of cards auto assign this but since the Dell has a 2003 date, its worth checking.

3. I've seen drives detected before but not usable. It had to do with the SCSI cable and termination. If this is the SCSI card and hard drive that came with the computer, this may not be an issue (assuming it worked previously).
