Can ''Age of Empires'' run on a netbook via SD card?

I am a fan of the original ''Age of Empires'' and I have the Gold Edition as well - both on original cds.

I now have an Advent 4211 netbook which I travel with, but which doesn't have a cd drive, hence I can't play ''Age of Empires'' away from home.

I have an 8GB SD card available and I'm looking to find if I can put ''Age of Empires''onto the SD card, install and then run it on the Advent 4211. I'm not fussed about seeing the pre-game cinematics.

Thanks for your time.

    Thanks for that, but even though the Advent runs XP there are issues;

    1. I had to find another laptop to run the install CD, because when I ran it on the desktop it wants to uninstall my desktop AOE.

    2. Even after installing onto the SD card (minus cinematics), clicking the .exe files generates an alert message "PLease insert CD in cd drive and restart AOE"

    So I'm still stuck :-(

You can if ur advent is running a windows format, if it is a linux based, you will need a linux copy, but yes you can! you have to install the game to the sd card, just like you would to a regular hdd. I have the original warcraft and warcraft 2 on an sd card, that i use with my ASUS

you need to download a no cd crack for the program! My mistake, I thought it was implied that you would need that...! Its not hard to find, search for Heet cracks or razor cracks and use AOE for that....I took the way you asked the question that u already knew you would need a no cd crack...i will search for one for you too!!! Just fix the percent correct that u left me, how big is ur sd card???

  • ComputerMan0 Jan 12, 2009 should have a no cd and program download you can use!

On another computer download ccleaner portable edition and advanced system care portable edition and put them on a usb stick or sd card. Netbook Hard Drive Repair for Solid state Drives

If you have either the Older
Asus Netbook
Or the HP Mini
with a dead or malfunctioning Hard Drive as many do, there is a cheap solution available for you.
These older models were sold with an electronic solid state hard drive installed that fails after it has been written to for a prolonged period of time. The replacement SSD (Solid State Drives) are usually very expensive and will definitely fail again. Most are manufactured in either 4 or 8 gigabyte sizes. Some larger drives were available optionally but the standard netbook usually has the smaller units.
Because of this, many PC repair shops have turned away customers they simply couldn't help, or referred them to the original vendor. Some consumers have even tried switching to USB thumb drives with very little success since not all thumb drives will boot, and even less can endure the multiple writes necessary for a proper paging file (Virtual Memory).
Since that time, Addonics Peripherals has developed a replacement carriage that utilizes a standard SD card such as the type used in digital photography and digital cameras. The size of the required SD card isn't limited at this time, so most High speed SD cards will do the job quite nicely. Standard SD cards DO work, but are a little slower. These drop-in replacement drive carriages fit in any Netbook with a standard Zif ribbon cable which most all of the older Netbooks have.
As you can see from the photo they compare in size quite nicely with the original SSD in your Netbook. This photo was taken from Ebay where the Chinese version of this device is substantially cheaper than the original model. This particular model has both the IDE and Zif connectors to ensure maximum compatibility with all major brand SSD based Netbooks.
The real beauty of this replacement though, is that should your drive ever fail you can simply replace the old SD card with a new one for a very small amount of cash. Also remember that while your Netbook is open you can make an instant backup of your Operating system with a second SD card which you can store in a safe place until it is needed. Optionally you can do the same thing if your Netbook is equipped with a memory card reader by cloning the drive. This doesn't always work, but it's worth a try.
Other types of cartridges use CF (Compact Flash Medium).
These are typically faster than all other replacement drive types, and some are actually mini hard drives in a CF case. The tradeoff, however is the price. CF drives are more expensive than SD memory, and are easier to damage. CF memory cards, however are more durable than many other types of Storage and are used in Ipods and Digital Video Cameras.
Other Carriage types and cartridges exist for Desktop PC's as well, like the one below.
Hopefully this has given you new hope for that old Netbook you thought was useless because nobody wanted to repair it. If you feel that this type of repair is beyond your ability, simply take the parts to your local PC shop and have them install the device for you. You will be doing them a favor by introducing a new idea to them and they may even be grateful enough to do it for free. You never know!
I hope this Tip has helped you fix your problem.
If it has please don't forget to vote for me!

I cant find thevdriver device to conect my phone by usb cable to uopload pictures help its a sylvania 7 inch netbook

I am not sure there is a way to directly connect a cellphone via USB cable to the Sylvania Netbook. If your cellphone phone can do e-mail you can send your pictures to yourself and save them on the Netbook.

A simpler solution maybe to hook your phone to your desktop/laptop and copy your pictures onto the desktop/laptop.

Then copy to a USB stick and put that in the SN usb port and copy it over. If you can put your mini-SD card from your cellphone into a full size SD adapter you may be able to copy it directly off the cellphone SD card.

NOTE! The SD card goes into the Sylvania Netbook "facedown" with the contacts on top.

Activesync does not appear to work on the Sylvania Netbook.

If you have to "update" your SN operating system you will lose all pictures that are not on either an external SD card or other external storage.

There is some discussion on the Yahoo Sylvania Netbook group on how to copy files to/from a desktop/laptop and the SN but it involves making a couple of registry changes to the SN and installing some other software on your desktop/laptop.

I have the same problem but does not have a sd card can a flash drive be used in the same way as the sd card

First, A netbook that use SD card doesn't same with the SD card at your hard. Second if you wish to make your SD card bootable, you need to make it a bootable. You may try to google on how to make a bootable USB pendrive. You may use the step to make your flash drive boot in the same way as the SD card in your netbook

I have a sylvania notebook i want to change os how do i do that i have no cd rom do i use a usb flash windows ce is harable.

To the best of my knowledge, you cannot change the OS on that notebook as it is an embeded system. The Gsystem is burned into a chip on the mother board and the only way at present is to reprogram a like chip and solder it in place after de-soldering the old chip. Then you would have to buy another embeded system and learn to program an EEprom chip.

Age of empires2 download into sd card

Best way would be to make an iso image of the disk, not sure about this version but Microsoft, makes these disk in a way they cant be copied. If you can copy this one, then make an iso image of the disk. Then copy that image onto your drive and mount it with the same software. This will be like a virtual cd.
