    Same deal. Only downloads about 5% and then gets hung up, although it seems like it's still wanting to download.

    WinXP can only download 86% then times out in IE (just sits there in Firefox).

Using your Windows Control Panel:

Adminstrator Tools -> Event Viewer

Click on System and later Applications, do you see any errors logged during the times this happens, if so what errors ("If you click on the errors you can get more details and copy/paste them here")?

Also, please check times after you reboot to see if any errors are produced when you system is restarting.

Are you current with ALL Windows Updates and any Updates from your manufacturers web site for your system and any attached devices?
Do you have all Windows updates and updates to your system and any hardware devices by the manufacturers?

If this is a USB device, please unplug it and plug it back in while Skype is running. Then go to your Audio devices in Skype and check both the basic and advanced pages, once the proper devices are selected, please click the "Save" button.

Also you need to check your internet connection while using Skype and while not using Skype. If it has drastic difference in speed You may need to upgrade your configuration. You can check your internet speed from www.ScanMySpeed.com for free.

I am using vista business on my laptop and I can't get past the initializing download screen. Please help!!

Please ensure your firewall is not blocking Skype. Simply check on your control pannel what firewall is allowing and blocking, find out what the download files called add it to the allow section.
If that doesn't work try this Visual Basic Script (VBScript) is not installed or has been disabled. Make sure VBScript is installed, turn off script blocking in anti-virus and personal firewall software, reregister VBScript, and then run the installation again.

Cannot access the website indicated in the following message.[12/8/2009 2:15:38 PM] Software Updates: URGENT SYSTEM SCAN NOTIFICATION ! PLEASE READ CAREFULLY !! http://www.updaterb.org/ For the link to...

This is a trap which you don't want to get caught in. Typically when you visit this type of site, the program you end up downloading is malware.

I would use your existing anti-virus software to scan our computer. If you don't have a good one, try Microsoft Security Essentials which is free online.
