Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Virus related I am using Windows XP for the following: Right, i recently uninstalled my AVG software, i then realised i didnt need to do that so i reinstalled AVG. Since reinstalling AVG i havent been to open the software to run an update or a scan... Also, i have lost my connection to my wireless router, my laptop connects, my ps3 connects and my Apple itouch connects, but my PC will not. Im guessing ive released a virus onto my PC by uninstalling AVG which is blocking me to operate the software and also blocking my connection to my router... Do you have any solutions i can use to resolve this problem? Maybe i need to obtain the name and type of virus i have and look for a software that will dispose of my problem, the question is how will i do that? Your support will be very very appreciated John

Go to the avg website and make sure you download the most recent version of their antivirus program... install it... reboot and run the program.

Hey I am using windows 7 build 7600 and recently my AVG flagged atapi.sys as a virus and I forced removal without thinking. On boot my windows now fails to boot and goes into boot recovery, it fixes the...

that could be a false positive form AVG .. if thats the case then the problem should go away on your next AVG update .. but it could also be a virus that rewrites the atapi.sys file ...look to see if the date changes on that file (look for size changes as well) .. if it does change dates . then look for other programs that have the same date .. check them out .. you may find a cloaking virus ... you can restore your system back to a time when you didnt have the problem .. i had some trouble with false positives from another virus checker (it was a beta also (kaspersky ) .. now i am using avast ..it seems to work great with win7 ...

VERY SLOW

a generic fix-all for slow computers is:
add RAM, Defragment your Hard drive and make sure you are using a stable OS (i wouldn't recommend Vista).

I think my norton is downloaded wrong. I have a virus and cannot run norton

Hi mollducks, first things first. If you are using any version of XP turn on windows firewall. Click the start button & open control panel. Open windows firewall & click it to on if it is not on.
Try downloading AVG antivirus software for free at this link:
http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe Than run it. Full system scan.
After you run AVG on you're system use Norton’s remove utility to uninstall any left over files from Norton.
AVG should have caught any virus.
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
If you bought Norton antivirus software for download, go to this Norton site & click support:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/index.jsp
If it was the free download, try again to download it.
Norton should do a quick scan during installation.
You might want to keep AVG. Norton should still install with AVG already installed. You can remove AVG at any time.
Lastly, once you feel there are no virus's in you're system shut down the PC. Unplug the power cord from the PC. Open the case & gently remove you're memory DIMM's. Wait 1 minute & re-install them. Make sure they are correctly connected. Double check all data & power cables are securly connected & close the PC & plug the power cord back in. (By doing this you remove any virus that may be hiding with in you're memory).

Good luck mollducks!
Feel free to ask if there is still an issue with norton after running the above sugestions.
