many causes :
first -->try to be sure that tv is programmed (parametere it) to force them to read hdmi entry.
second -->try to use the couple in key board --> Fn (near ctrl left ) + button that containt this image (like a screer )
They both will need to have hdmi ports so that you can run a hdmi to
hdmi cable between them. If not, you will need some type of adapter
that connects between them.
Once you have them connected turn the
tv on and press Select Input from the Remote and Select HDMI as the
input (If you have vga connections there might be a PC or Computer
connection for it).
Reboot the laptop and the video should be on the tv.
The video will show on most systems when you
reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit
the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the
correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key
will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.
Try turning both pc and tv off and connect, then turn both on. Also, make sure your Display setting are correctly configured. Goto Control Panel, Display and click on Settings Tab. If your still having trouble. Try changing your resolution and make sure that you have your TV to the right input. My TV has 4 HDMI 3 RCA 2Component 1 Digital Optical many USBs...can get kinda confusing. The connection should be numbered. Switch inputs with your remote til you get the right port. Then work on getting your pc to display correctly. Set your aspect ration to 16:9 first. Most tv and laptops are set this way. GOOD LUCK let me know how it goes.
First off, is the tv set to use the hdmi input? if not, change tv to hdmi input and try again. If still no good, you likely need to tell the laptop to use the hdmi connector. Try this:
connect hdmi from laptop to tv and select hdmi input on tv.
while holding the blue fn key (bottom left side of kbd) press and release the F5 key. This will toggle the laptop between the laptop lcd display, external connectors (vga/hdmi), or both simultaneously. Let me know if this works or not.....
You need to press the FUNCTION key or FN key. While holding down that key, Press one of the F keys on top. The F key will have a picture of a monitor on it. Usually F4 or F10 key. So hold down the FUNCTION key and press that F key. That will display your laptop on the TV. You can press it a few time to switch between your laptop display or both.
Make sure your TV does indeed support the resolutions you are trying to use. Some low quality HDMI cables can also be troublesome in higher resolution so try one you are sure to work.
Regarding to the desktop only being extended when using the RGB cables, try bringing up the desktop properties window, select the TV as the primary monitor and select "Use this monitor as Primary monitor". You might have to drag the windows Taskbar over to the other monitor, just rightclick the taskbar, uncheck "Lock the Taskbar" and drag it over to the other monitor.
