Ref: Sears Kenmore Wispertone Vacuum mdl. 116.27612690
I purchased a replacement hose for one that is crushed. How do I remove the old one from the swivel assembly and the handle assembly on the other end of the hose? I tried to unscrew them but they appear to be glued or something. Is there a trick to removing these?

The top cover to the light lense pops off at the ends. When you get that cover off then you will see 2 screws that are by the swivel neck. Take those out and then the whole body top cover comes off. That will get you into the roller brush and belt area of this machine.
If you push inwards on each side of the light cover on top you can remove it. With the light cover removed remove the (2) access screws. Now you will be able lift of the entire top cover from the base. You will then see the belt and roller brush, remove the old belt and replace with a new one. You can get the replacement belt you need here:
I just encountered the same problem on a Whispertone 116 last evening. If it is the construction same as mine, there are four flexible plastic retainers molded into the top cover in the gap between the pedal and the motor cover. These are on the hinged side of the pedal. All four retainers must be bent in toward the interior of the vacuum simultaneously to release the pedal. A screwdriver does not work very well for this. What worked for me were four metal bars about 3/8" wide X 1/8" thick X 1-1/2" long. The pieces I used were actually the snap-off ends of some hanging file rails I found in my basement. Insert the four bars at the four retainers. They should fit snugly as they must push the retainers past the hinged portion of the pedal. To remove the pedal, rotate the pedal up in the same direction as the spring is pushing and it should come free from the motor compartment cover at which point you can access the other two screws. I suspect Sears has a special tool with four tabs to perform this trick in the repair center. Good luck!
Kenmore canisters are privately labeled Panasonic canisters and sometimes panasonic parts will fit them. Any reputable independent dealer should be able to tell you if the part you're looking for is intercharngable with a Panasonic, but he/she will probably need to actually see the unit.
Your other option is to take it to the Sears service dept. They are the only ones who have access to the schematics and "Kenmore" parts. It'll probably be more expensive through them though.

There are some hoses that have separate hose ends and some hoses that you have to replace the entire hose the way the manufacturer made the hose. There are some local vac dealers that may have a new, or a good used hose or they also may have a non-genuine replacement hose that you could use. It really depends on the hose that you have and how it was made. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/home_10153_12605 National Customer Relations1-800-549-4505 Home Services & Repairs1-800-4-MY-HOME 1-800-469-4663 Parts Orders & Inquires1-800-366-PART 1-800-366-7278 Don – The Vac Man Go Ahead.Use Us.

Replaced it and it ran for a few minutes and stopped again. Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.Kenmore 22612 Bagged Canister Vacuum. It sound sot be that it could be your electrical hose be have a short in it or your carbon brushes needs cleaning or replacement or the worst problem is that it could be your motor, fields or armature. Most motors can be rebuilt but I would check the simpler things 1st B4 you try to rebuilt or replace the motor. I am not sure if Sears / Kenmore can download the owner’s manual from the website but I would suggest that you call the Sears / Kenmore Factory to have them send out a copy of the owners manual so that you can do it yourself or if that is not the way you want to do it contact your local vac dealer and they can help or call the factory for further assistance.
