Recieving a L6 code when trying to sew a button hole

The machine is brand new and this is the first time I have used this machine. It give 3 quick beeps and the L6 code displaying in the window. It always stops in the exact same place. It completes the first straight line accross and then approximately 6 stitches down the first side before the it stops, beeps and shows the code. I have played with the tension, and everything I can think of ....nothing works. Any ideas?

You need to pull down the buttonhole guide which is the BLACK tab toward the back. I had this problem too, because I was pulling down the white tab in the front.

My sisters singers brand new Athena sewing machine she just started jusing about 5 or 6 times just stopped picking up the bobbin thread and sewing thread in the material. It is just leaving holes in

Needs a new needle right way around, most likely. And check the threading on both bobbin and top of the machine. It makes a big difference which way the bobbin turns in the bobbin case.

Singer sewing machine will not pick up bobbin thread, and when sewing it just makes holes in material without the thread staying in.

The needle is damaged, in backwards or not fully up in the machine, or the bobbin is misthreaded.

Try a new size 12/80 needle, flat back of the needle to the back of the machine, rethread top and bottom from scratch, and see if that makes a difference.

bl means you need to pull down the buttonhole lever on the left hand side of the needlebar

Machine will not complete a buttonhole, keeps showing error code 6L. No error code listed in manual. Machine will only do first half of buttonhole and then shows code and stops.

I've been looking too and I found here http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sewingclasses/board.pl?t=18328that you need to put the bar behind the needle threader down. I think they call it a button hole stop? I don't know, but it worked. I didn't even know it existed. But it solved my problem. On my Kenmore it looks like a black lever and you pull it down. It tells the button-holer that you are at the end of the hole and it needs to backup. nifty, kind of.

Button Hole Beeping on 7462

Yes frustrating issue this one. I discovered that you need to pull down the retractable button hole guide found behind the needle threader (not visible when you are sitting at the machine).

Hope this helps, happy sewing!!!

Changing stitches on a White 1418 sewing machine...

I have a White 1418. Here's how you do it:

1. Attach the buttonhole presser foot (should have come with your machine) and place the fabric underneath.
2. Set the stitch length knob to 0, the zigzag width knob to 5, and set the needle position to center. Sew 3-5 stitches.
3.Change the stitch length to 0.5, the zigzag width to 2, and the needle position to left. Sew to the entire length of your buttonhole.
4.Set stitch length knob to 0, zigzag width knob to 5, and needle position to center and sew about 3-5 stitches
5. Set the stitch length knob to 0.5, zigzag width to 2, and set needle position to the right. Pressing the R button (reverse button), sew up to the top stitches.
6. Remove the fabric and open the button hole with a button hole cutter.

Sounds complicated, but it's really easy. I love this machine, you just have to know how to use it!
