Sometimes the connection behind the door panel causes this problem. It is a wire that fits into a hole on the inside of the door handle. Be careful when you pop the door panel off. Use the tool, which is a flat thin pry bar. The wire looks like a thick metal coat hanger and fits in the hole.

SOURCE: Z4 Central Locking problem - drivers door.

looks like you will need a drivers door lock actuator (contains the latch)if the door will not unlock with the remote either.the lock cylinder usually will fail since you had to use it everytime to unlock the door. the lock cylinder is vin specific so expect a delay when its ordered from the dealership.i would probably expect around $800 for the complete repair, kinda pricey but the dealership will go out of its way to retain a customer.

SOURCE: Turning off airbag

all you have to do is open your passenger door and on the dash by the ac, there is a little hole where you can insert your car key and turn in where it will then turn the passenger airbag off. I have never had to remove anything to turn it off, all you have to do is turn in with your key!!!

SOURCE: Central Locking not working

Hi Craig,
I'm running a E34 Tds Touring with a similar problem, my rear doors and tailgate have dropped of the central locking circuit.
I have been told it is the Central locking Module a large black box under the dash that is faulty, apparently a common problem.
Hope this points you in the right direction,
Please remember to rate my effort!

SOURCE: 2003 bmw 325i keys does not unlock and the door

insert the key into the drivers side or passender side front door, twist the key and pull open on the handle at the same time and the door will open. It might take a few times to get it, but this does work, source BMW AG Munich.

SOURCE: headlight bulb replacement

bulb, igniter, or module, in order of likelihood and cost.
My bulb was out, so had a bulb put in, but still out. Had an off-duty BMW tech do it.
HOWEVER, if you have the HID Xenon headlight option, you can get shocked to death (yes, death) if you touch the wrong things together.

It's in the owner's manual -- turn wheels in or out, on front inside of wheel well is a cover that has small screws holding it in. The there's a plastic cove that snaps off and, walla, you're at the back of the light. It just twists in and out.

Don't touch the new bulb (particularly if it's a Xenon).

I'd pay to get it done.

After changing my windscreen, my z4 key does not open the doors automatically only manually,is it true

The windscreen has nothing what-so-ever to do with your door locks or keys!!! I suggest you take the car to a locksmith or to the dealer to get the keys problem fixed. You've got to be able to lock it for security, because if it gets stolen while unlocked, the Insurance Company will refuse the claim.

Lock on drivers side will not open

the most common problem is lock solenoid (inside door) needs to be replaced. Before replacing try re-syncing locks. To do this, you need to lock all doors from passenger side, unlock from pass side, re-lock from pass side - then try drivers lock.

My z4 key does not open the doors automaticaly only manually. how can i fix it ?

Hi,

You may need to replace the batteries inside the key. If it is a standard BMW key, it will have a battery or batteries inside. It pops off to one side so you have to study it carefully so that you do not break it.

Look for a groove on it where you can insert a blunt object or go to autozone or another parts shop or its equivalent to have them check it and replace it for you.

Hope that helps.

2003 bmw z4. driver window does not drop 1/4 when opening or closing door. microswitch not in latch on body but inside door. how do I replace switch. thnak you

As long as it's not a mechanical malfunction, your car's position memory just needs to be reprogrammed. So, put the key in the ignition & place it in position 1 (ACC). Hold down the affected window switch for an additional five seconds after the window goes all the way down to perform a memory reset. Let this window back up, let go, pull the keys back out of the ignition, & open the door.

Door key will click open the driver door but not the passenger door

Sounds like the actuator in the passenger door has packed up. It will need replacing, but is not a quick job because the door panel has to come off before gaining access to the door lock actuator.
